About This Opportunity 

As a Senior Administration Officer, you will provide high-level executive and administrative support to the Professor of Indigenous Education and the Academic Director, ATSISU. This is a key contact position responsible for maintaining an efficient office and managing the professor's diary, correspondence, and travel. You will also lead the academic administration function and serve as a central point of contact for matters related to the portfolio.

Key responsibilities will include: 

Executive and Administrative Support

  • Provide high-level administrative and executive support to the Professor of Indigenous Education, managing their calendar, coordinating meetings, and handling all correspondence and travel arrangements.

Administrative and Financial Management

  • Administer financial transactions and reconcile credit card accounts in accordance with University policy. This includes handling HR-related support and maintaining efficient record-keeping systems.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Draft correspondence, reports, and other materials. You will also develop and provide specialized reports and ensure compliance with all relevant University policies and procedures.

Stakeholder Engagement and Team Leadership

  • Work proactively to develop networks and liaise with internal and external personnel. You will also lead the academic administration function for the ATSISU and provide guidance to a junior team member.

About You

The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. 

  • Demonstrated high-level administrative skills, including experience providing executive assistance to senior staff. You should have highly developed computer skills, particularly with the Microsoft Office suite, and an ability to draft professional correspondence and other materials.

  • Proven ability to work independently, manage financial transactions like credit card reconciliation, and handle a busy workload with excellent organizational skills. You must be able to set priorities, meet deadlines, and exercise sound judgment and discretion.

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, both written and oral, with the ability to effectively consult, negotiate, and liaise with diverse internal and external groups. You should be able to maintain confidentiality and build cooperative relationships with colleagues.

  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous protocols, especially when working with respected Indigenous peoples, knowledge holders, and communities.

  • Sound knowledge of university organisational structures and corporate systems, or a capacity to quickly acquire this knowledge, is also essential.

You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment, and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks. Employer sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.
