This role is part of a regional in-house ecommerce media team responsible for driving performance marketing strategy across key digital commerce platforms. The position will lead ecommerce media strategy and planning for the Japan market, with a primary focus on Amazon.
The role will work in close partnership with a Hyderabad-based Center of Excellence (CoE) team that is responsible for campaign execution, and reporting as well to the global strategy team based in Europe and be the key point of contact with internal stakeholders in Japan.
The goal is to build and execute high-performing media strategies that support ecommerce sales growth in Japan.
Key responsibilities
Strategy and planning
- Define and lead ecommerce media strategy for the Japan market across Amazon (and other retail platforms if relevant) for search and DSP.
- Translate shopper behavior, category & brand insights, and platform trends into tailored media plans
- Identify new growth opportunities and inform investment decisions with data-driven rationale
- Forecast, allocate, and optimize media budgets in alignment with performance KPIs and evolving market dynamics.
Campaign & budget guidance and collaboration
- Support keyword strategy development, including Japanese-language research and seasonal prioritization
- Collaborate with the Hyderabad CoE team to align strategy with execution across all campaign touchpoints
- Provide brand, category, and campaign context to ensure strategic consistency in execution
Stakeholder alignment and knowledge sharing
- Work closely with local teams (sales, marketing) to integrate media plans into the broader commercial agenda
- Ensure continuous alignment with global retail media media teams on strategy, tools, and performance benchmarks
- Support knowledge transfer through regular category updates and best practice sharing with internal partners.
Performance reporting and optimization
- Deliver regular performance reports with actionable insights and clear next steps
- Monitor market activity and competitor trends to inform media adjustments and innovation opportunities
- Recommend and implement continuous optimizations based on campaign performance.
Qualifications and experience
Ecommerce and media expertise
- Proven experience in ecommerce media strategy, planning, and execution, with a strong understanding of Amazon Ads both on search and DSP
- Experience in performance marketing and media budget optimization
Market knowledge and analytical skills
- Strong understanding of the Japan ecommerce ecosystem, shopper behaviors, and retail media dynamics
- Skilled in analyzing data to generate insights and drive decision-making
Communication and collaboration
- Ability to collaborate effectively with remote teams across markets and functions
- Fluency in Japanese and English, both written and spoken
Other considerations
- Familiarity with local advertising regulations and platform-specific compliance in Japan in healthcare will be a plus
- Experience working in an in-house media setup or transitioning from external to internal capabilities is a plus.
