Summary/Objective:
The Economic Intelligence Specialist will be responsible for providing in-depth analysis and insights on macroeconomic trends, government policies, and global economic developments that impact the banking sector and broader financial markets. This role aims to support strategic decision-making and help the bank navigate economic challenges and opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive economic research and analysis on local and global economic trends, including GDP growth, inflation, unemployment, and monetary policy.
- Monitor and analyze developments in government policies, fiscal measures, and regulatory changes that could affect the banking industry.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations on economic trends and forecasts for internal stakeholders, including senior management and the board.
- Familiarity with Botswana’s regulatory environment and economic policies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide economic insights that inform business strategies and product development.
- Identify key economic indicators and data sources to track and analyze economic performance.
- Engage with external economic research institutions, think tanks, and government agencies to gather additional insights and support evidence-based decision-making.
- Develop and maintain economic models to forecast key economic indicators relevant to the bank's operations.
- Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders, ensuring that complex economic concepts are communicated effectively.
- Stay up to date with global economic trends and developments, sharing insights with relevant departments.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- A degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Accounting, or related field from a recognized institution
- Master’s degree in economics, Applied Economics, or Financial Economics (added advantage).
- Professional qualification in data analysis or financial modelling
Experience:
- 3 – 5 years’ experience in financial services industry
- Strong knowledge of economic concepts and principles, as well as macroeconomic indicators.
Skills:
- Proficient in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, statistical software).
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present data clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in research and reporting.
