What’s the role?

We are looking for someone with a passion for improving the security posture of applications and understands how to translate security best practices and findings into actionable tasks.

Your mission, should you choose to join us, will be to investigate weak points within application designs and implementations. Working alongside software developers, product owners and project teams, you will effectively communicate these identified vulnerabilities and risks, educate them on how to build secure software, and implement the automation of security testing to perform at scale. You will be supported by our talented application security team and the entire security community within Westpac.

This role is responsible for uncovering technical vulnerabilities in application source code and dependencies across languages such as Java, C#, and JavaScript, while promoting secure coding standards like the OWASP Top 10. It also involves leveraging experience with software development and DevOps tools while working closely with cross-functional teams to embed security throughout the development lifecycle.

What do I need?

A successful candidate will be able to:

  • Identify technical vulnerabilities within application source code or dependencies in programming languages such as Java, C# and JavaScript.
  • Advise on software development and web application security principles and concepts such as OWASP Top 10.
  • Demonstrate experience in software development and DevOps tools.
  • Collaborate with application teams, projects teams and developers.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm to learn and develop new technical and professional skills.

Experience in one or more of the following would be warmly welcomed:

  • Development experience in a programming language such as Java, C# and JavaScript.
  • DevOps and scripting tools such as Jenkins, Bamboo, Git, Maven, Artifactory, Bash, PowerShell, and Python.
  • Familiarity of enterprise risk, governance and compliance principles.
