Salary - £95,000+ (Negotiable: DoE), yearly bonus, hybrid working - This key senior leadership role is responsible for managing and developing our capability areas and owning resource allocation activities across our client contracts.

The Deputy Director – Capability, will report into our Delivery Director and be responsible for developing and driving improvements across our capability areas, resource allocation management and hold significant people management and employee engagement responsibilities.

Role Summary:
Resource Management
- Develop and implementation of a recruitment strategy to meet future pipeline and support growth.
- Lead on resource allocation across contract roles to meet demand and managing opportunity pipeline/aligning resources accordingly.
- Ensure maximisation of revenue opportunities by achieving productivity and utilisation targets.
- Work closely with the Talent Acquisition Manager, supporting recruitment and selection activities in line with demand and strategy, bringing in top talent to required SLAs.
- Develop and improve internal processes and practises to mature the recruitment, resource allocation and onboarding processes, promoting transparent practices and setting accurate expectations across the business.
- Ensuring consultant CV libraries are maintained to support timely resource allocation and meeting utilisation targets.
Line Management & Employee Engagement Activities
- Develop and embed a new Capability structure, in conjunction with the Delivery Director, including establishing new roles and responsibilities for Capability Leads and improving the ways of working.
- Direct line management of senior managers across all functional areas (currently 5 Associate Directors) and indirect line management of all consultants (currently approximately 100 consultants of varying levels of experience and seniority).
- Demonstrate strong leadership and consistently model exemplary behaviours, supporting the upskilling of direct/indirect reports’ line management and promoting best practice regarding leadership skills.
- Work closely with the Head of People, to develop and implement an improved performance management process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of performance in support of the reward and recognition policy.
- Take a lead role on performance management, ensuring that high standards are maintained across capability and behaviours, ensuring required actions are taken to address when appropriate.
- Act as escalation point for challenging and complex employee relations cases e.g. disciplinaries, carrying out investigations, dismissals etc.
- Be a visible and engaged senior leader within the organisation, actively involved in supporting internal communications, driving collaboration opportunities and further building on i3Works’ positive culture.
- A strong focus on employee engagement activities, working closely with the Head of People using employee survey feedback to shape continuous improvements in regard to employee satisfaction and retention.
Capability Management & Development
- Develop and lead on the implementation of a capability roadmap aligned to the business strategy and driving forward improvement initiatives to maximise organisation performance and efficient ways of working.
- Collaborating closely with the Business Development (BD) team and Delivery to evolve our capability offerings, conduct horizon scanning aligned with strategic priorities, identify emerging market opportunities, and establish new capability areas that support our sales strategy.
- Work closely with the Capability Leads to develop cross-functional relationships, consistency and upskilling.
- Take a lead role on i3Works’s new Career Progression Framework (CPF) project, working closely with the People Team and engaging the wider workforce to:
- Further build on and embed the consultancy, management and behavioural skills & competencies outlined in the CPF (iLead, iConsult & iMentor)
- Define and map out the required technical competencies across consultancy role levels, aligned with learning and development pathways.
- Support the development of digital tools and processes e.g. a skills matrix, updated Personal Development Plans (PDPs), to support contract allocation, succession planning and identifying skills gaps in the organisation.
- Support updating i3Works’ performance cycle in line with the CPF, e.g. processes around promotion, promoting transparent and fair practices around career progression etc.
Support to Business Development
- Working closely with the Bid Management Service (BMS) Team and BD Team, to develop competencies and provide SME SQEP resources to support solution development, technical authoring and review of future bids.
- Provide thought leadership on capability area to support i3Works’ external brand and marketing opportunities.
Skills & Experience:
- Highly experienced in ownership of complex resource allocation activities and commercial acumen, with proven positive results in regard to maximising revenue opportunities by achieving productivity and utilisation targets.
- Proven track record of capability management and development, including road mapping, horizon scanning and enabling upskilling across an organisation.
- Extensive line management experience at a senior level, including handling complex employee relations cases e.g. disciplinaries, carrying out investigations, dismissals etc.
- Significant senior leadership experience, with demonstrable results in regard to developing leadership skills in others and creating an inclusive, supportive culture, with high-performing teams.
- Experience of leading on end-to-end organisational change programmes, from planning, consultation to conception and embedding.
- Considerable experience within the relevant sector, supporting bids, including solution development and technical writing.
- Have put in place strategies and processes to maximise business performance, ensuring operational excellence and innovation.
- The postholder will be required to work onsite regularly (e.g. Bristol Office Headquarters or client sites as required) and have a visible presence within the organisation.
- Ideally you will have some experience of capturing and enhancing capabilities in the consultancy sector.
