Data Analyst II

 

The Data Analyst II is responsible for developing and maintaining critical business intelligence metrics in support of the National Shipbuilding Strategy and the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy vessel construction projects underway at the Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards. This position focuses on maximizing the accessibility of and business value derived from key organizational data. This includes both development of new analytics, and support of analytics users throughout the business as well as the development of innovative new methods of collecting, analyzing, presenting, or actioning data.

 

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver, BC V7P 2R2

              

What you’ll do

 

  • Validate data sources, transformations, and analysis against reference data to ensure quality, accuracy, and completeness of derived reports.

  • Complete data discovery and mapping of shipyard enterprise applications alongside shipbuilding new construction teams.

  • Develops documentation of business requirements, data sources, infrastructure, and reports to provide clarity and context for data consumers throughout the shipyard.

  • Develop dataflows and datasets using Power Query, M, DAX & SQL

  • Build dataset requirements, metrics, data/report definitions, and establish reporting governance processes.

  • Optimizes and standardizes all stages of the data analysis process, from extraction through to modeling and visualization.

  • Collects, validates, interprets, and organizes various types of data into relevant metrics and reports and/or summaries for designated business objectives.

  • Supports ad hoc and other unplanned analysis and reporting needs as determined by management priority and business changes.

  • Collaborates with and provides training and knowledge transfer to business end-users of reports and data sources.

  • Coordinates with Functional Department and Program Resources to define, collect and report departmental, program and shipyards level metrics.

  • Acts as a Business Intelligence Subject Matter Expert (SME) by supporting team members in the use and interpretation of data and understanding of metrics and reporting requirements.

  • Understanding business objectives and providing ad hoc data extracts by working with business partners

  • Effectively utilize the main data sources for reporting purposes within the business unit and maintain expert knowledge of all of these data sources

 

What you’ll bring

 

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with business analytics, statistical analytics, KPI development and metrics reporting in a New Construction Shipbuilding & Project Management environment with quantitative, financial or metric analysis on multiple large-scale data warehouses.

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in computer science, Statistics, Business or a relevant field.

  • Demonstrated work experience with ground-up / full stack analytics solutions is an asset, including development of data sources, loading/transformation, analysis/modelling, reporting, and end user experiences.

  • Demonstrated work experience with Microsoft Power Query, M, DAX & SQL

  • Demonstrated work experience working with Databricks Data warehouse integration with Deltek Cobra, IFS MRP, Oracle Cloud MRP.

  • Proven experience working with data and databases, including working experience with programming languages and business intelligence tools such as SQL and Power BI, to build dataflows, datasets and analytical solutions and create visual insights and dashboards

  • Experience with Azure Analytics Services, including Azure Analysis Services

  • Experience with the Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps and Power Automate (Flow) is an asset

  • Well-developed understanding of database structure, business object models, and large-scale data processing techniques.

  • Familiarity and understanding of KPI analysis, performance measurement, financial systems and project scheduling/controls systems

  • Demonstrated understanding of heavy manufacturing operations and related data relationships

  • Demonstrated data analytic skills including proven ability to merge multiple data sources into meaningful information, review incomplete data, problem solve to fill in gaps and provide recommendation for meaningful solutions

  • Strong technical communication ability, including the ability to clearly and concisely document and communicate complex data structures and process maps.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills for effective communication

  • Well-developed organizational skills, including ability to prioritize a variety of work assignments

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and superior time management skills.

The estimated salary for this position is $91,437 -$103,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
