JOB TITLE: Senior Compliance Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Compliance
REPORTING TO: Compliance Senior Manager

POSITION SAMMRY
The Senior Compliance Specialist will serve as a strategic business partner, guiding Operating Units and Functions in developing compliant solutions. This individual contributor role involves providing advice and counsel on compliance and ethical business practices to various units at Medtronic. The specialist will actively enhance the Compliance Program by executing and driving compliance strategies through collaborative interactions, supporting risk mitigation planning, independently validating activities, and overseeing compliance processes and controls impacting Japan operations. This will be achieved through the development, implementation, and execution of a robust compliance program.
The role requires interaction with senior executives in Japan and is based in Tokyo, with primary responsibility for Japan. The position reports directly to the ANZ & Japan Compliance Officer.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Key responsibilities include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Compliance Programs and Policies:
- Ensure Medtronic’s Business Conduct Standards and other Compliance Programs and Policies are understood and followed.
- Develop, implement, and deliver training on compliance policies and procedures.
- Provide compliance-related updates, presentations, metrics, and reports to the Leadership Teams.
- Maintain oversight of third-party compliance risks through screening procedures, on-site assessments, training, and remediation of compliance gaps.
- Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with Functional and Operating Units to drive compliance and provide strategic advice.
- Support compliance audits and monitoring activities, including internal and external audits.
- Liaise with local industry associations on compliance and JFTC issues.
- Support the ANZ & Japan Compliance Officer in managing the compliance program in Japan.
- Advisory and Consultation:
- Provide high-quality compliance advice and services on the company’s compliance obligations and risks.
- Answer day-to-day queries on the application of BCS and other compliance requirements.
- Conduct reviews of business interactions with HCPs/HCOs and sales/marketing activities, and provide prior approvals and daily consultations.
- Analytics and Reporting:
- Perform analytics and drive risk-based discussions with business units through key compliance metrics.
- Analyze metrics and set KPIs for improvement in Japan.
- Project and Process Improvement:
- Develop and implement training and communications for a company-wide compliance program.
- Make recommendations to improve processes or systems to enhance the Compliance Team’s performance and efficiency.
- Provide assistance and engage in Compliance projects.
- General Responsibilities:
- Work independently to develop solutions to moderately complex problems.
- Participate in the creation and maintenance of Compliance Team’s SharePoint sites and training materials.
- Deliver and manage projects and work with stakeholders to achieve desired results.
- Encourage ethical behavior and protect the corporation from exposure to unacceptable risks.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Fluent on both of Japanese and English
- Data Literacy and analytical skills: to be able to detect patterns/risks and conduct audit and monitoring
- Strong communication skills with a solution-oriented mindset: Able to articulate complex regulations in simple terms to various stakeholders.
- Coordination skills
- Nice to have: privacy skillset
SPECIALISED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- At least 5 years of relevant compliance, regulatory, quality or similar experience, preferably within the pharmaceutical or medical device industry
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- The ability to work effectively in a global matrix organisation across geographic and functional boundaries.
- A strong work ethic and an exceptional business partnering focus
- The ability to multi-task and manage complexity and take a solution focused approach
- An energetic, self-motivated and team-oriented approach
- Good attention to detail; effective organisational and time management skills.
- Sound knowledge of the MS Office suite of software.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- The employee is also required to use a computer and communicate with peers and co-workers.
- Be able to complete computer–based work.
