Position Description:

As an integral member of the University of Louisville's central budget office, the Budget Analyst III will assist with the creation, monitoring and analysis of the university’s annual operating and capital budget.  In addition, this position engages in high-level budget reporting, forecasting and provides analytical support to the Director of Budget and Planning through the careful review of budget requests, budget-to-actual revenue and expense monitoring, and analyses of financial operations.  This position informs and guides other finance team members across the university as it relates to budget and financial aspects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the timely and accurate completion of the annual operating budget for university, which includes reviewing and analyzing academic and support unit budget submission, and providing support, training and guidance on the university budget system.

  • Review, analyze, and process budget requests and budget revisions.

  • Monitor university revenues and expenses to ensure a stable financial position which includes running data queries and updating budget files to maintain accurate financial reporting.

  • Provide support as needed to complete the state biennial budget submission.

  • Complete and evaluate information for both internal and external reports and analyses.

  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues within the budget office and across the university’s campuses.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business, finance, or accounting with some familiarity of postsecondary education or public sector.

  • Ability to manipulate large data sets in Excel using formulas or pivot tables

  • Ability to prepare executive level reports that provide clear and concise information

  • Familiarity with Workday Finance and/or Adaptive Planning

  • Ability to convey complex information effectively through oral and written communication

  • Fundamental knowledge of budgeting, finance and accounting principles

  • Strong analytical skills

Competencies

  • Proficient with Microsoft products, especially Excel

  • Organized and ability to track assignments with limited oversight and respond to emails in a timely manner

  • Team-focused; ability to work well with others and contribute to the overall mission and objectives of the office and university

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
