Who We Need

Abilities First is seeking a Finance Associate to join our Finance team. The Finance Associate plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial records and contributing to broader financial operations in accordance with agency philosophy and policy & Corporate Compliance Plan. We are looking for someone who is collaborative, organized, and dedicated to continuous improvement in financial operations and team development.   


Position Summary

The Finance Associate will work within a collaborative shared workspace to assist in the maintenance of accounting records of the Finance Department in accordance with GAAP. This role includes engaging in a duty rotation to promote smooth operations and ensure the efficient management of tasks.


Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week

Pay Range: $24-$28 per hour based commensurate with education and experience


  

Position Standards  

This position will have primary responsibilities or serve as a backup for the following tasks:

  • Set up and maintain prepaid journal entries.
  • Complete bank reconciliations and maintain loan schedules as assigned.
  • Will be responsible for completing daily deposits and cash receipts. 
  • Review adult services billing in Therap/EHR monthly.
  • Prepare billing for school age education programs.
  • Consumer ACH administration and Consumer ledger review.
  • Prepare bi-annual PNA allowance disbursements. 
  • As a member of the finance team, complete month end general ledger closing activities as assigned.
  • Track and maintain CAM records for all applicable leases.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual agency budgets as needed.
  • Prepare audit workpapers as assigned.
  • Maintain grant documentation and prepare any necessary submission to funding agencies.
  • Prepare and process all ISS program documentation required by OPWDD.
  • Performs other appropriate job-related activities as requested by your supervisor or as circumstances warrant.
  • Ensures all required trainings and certifications required are current, and seeks further support and training where needed.
  • Adhere to agency Code of Legal and Ethical Behavior, which require all employees, consultants, board members, volunteers and affiliates to perform their responsibilities according to ethical and legal standards with honesty, integrity, fairness, good faith and respect for others and the law.
  • Follows all agency policy and procedures and demonstrates continuous regard to personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Will incorporate concepts of person-centered excellence by respecting people’s concerns and responding accordingly and will use “teachable moments” to assist people in understanding and exercising their rights.

Requirements

  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with two (2) years’ related experience. A combination of education and experience may be deemed acceptable by supervisor. 
  • Experience with non-profit accounting preferred.
  • Must have a current NYS driver’s license, free of moving violations; deemed acceptable by our insurance carrier.
