SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Operations, the Director of Finance plays a crucial leadership role in the management of financial operations and tax planning for the organization while providing financial insights to its shareholders. This includes collaborating with both internal and external parties to fulfill duties related to taxable income projections, shareholder distributions, fixed asset management, and strategic growth initiatives among other key areas of focus.

The Director of Finance is responsible for tax compliance and strategy, ensuring adherence to all tax regulations while optimizing the organization’s tax position.  The role requires the accurate and timely dissemination of information in various aspects of the accounting function, including general ledger, accounts payable, purchasing, and payroll for multiple entities.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and uphold financial dashboard reporting that supports all existing metrics currently provided to the Board; summarize and forecast the organization’s business activity and financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on historical data, current trends, and future projections.
  • Responsible for overseeing the finance team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment.
  • Oversee all treasury management functions.
  • Prepare and review operating budgets to support financial performance.
  • Manage cash flow operations across multiple corporate entities.
  • Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize liabilities and optimize the company's tax position.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations; stay informed about changes to federal tax legislation and assess the subsequent impact on the organization and its shareholders.
  • Carry out federal R&D tax credit studies and conduct quarterly calculations of taxable income projections to include an accrual to cash conversion, Section 174 R&D calculations, and book and tax differences for depreciation.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors as needed.
  • Communicate forecasted taxable income to the entire shareholder group on a quarterly basis.
  • Advise on shareholder distributions, examining both discretionary and tax distributions based on available cash flow.
  • Monitor the conversion of new fixed asset additions into CCH fixed assets and ensure proper asset capitalization and depreciation.
  • Complete year-end business tax planning tasks and provide shareholders with federal, RI, and MA Schedule K-1 income forecasts and preparation.
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of all tax returns, including income tax, sales tax, property tax, and other relevant filings.
  • Following the execution of an LOI, advise on prospective practice acquisitions, assist with purchase price allocation and maximizing depreciation, and collaborate with management to execute the acquisition due diligence phase of planned business expansions.
  • Advise on professional development expenses that are reimbursable to shareholders.
  • Execute accurate and timely financial analyses and provide monthly consolidated accrual basis financial statements.
  • Assist with the analysis of physical asset financing through vendor(s) and/or financial institution(s).
  • Safeguard compliance with both quarterly and annual financial covenants.
  • Negotiate contracts with external vendors and partners to secure favorable terms.
  • Ensure adequate property and casualty insurance coverage is in place; manage policy negotiations and monitor coverage changes.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND BASIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting and CPA required.
  • 10+ years of experience in finance with 5+ years of experience in a senior leadership role required.
  • 5+ years of experience working with S corporation structures required, including tax and compliance considerations.
  • 5+ years of healthcare industry experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of tax regulations and compliance.
  • Strong analytical, strategic planning, and financial management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong Excel, Word, and mid-range accounting system skills required; Microsoft Dynamics or similar software experience is a plus.
