We are currently seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector – TET III for our Baltimore office to work in SHA District 2

 

What You’ll Do:
The primary function of this role will be to supervise the monitoring and inspection of highway / structure construction projects for the MDOT State Highway Administration and may include construction inspection for concrete or asphalt roadways, structures, drainage systems, traffic barrier, maintenance of traffic, construction safety and erosion and sediment control components.

 

Classification Title: Transportation Engineer Technician III

 

Kay Responsibilities:

  • Work is performed under varying work assignments and conditions and is performed in the office or in the field during inspection duties with exposure to varying weather conditions and rough terrain and requirements for walking, standing, bending, and working in close proximity with traffic on Maryland highways and requires efficient operation of computers and other office machines, survey equipment and the like. 
  • Employees in this position work on transportation project sites and will be required to travel and be available for work in the State Highway Administration (SHA) area of District 2 including Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot and Kent Counties.  The current anticipated assignment for this position is in Cecil County but not guaranteed and subject to change by SHA. 
  • Employee will perform inspection duties to ensure the contractor complies with contract standard specifications, contract provisions, and plans. 
  • Monitor work activities, perform inspections and provide daily reports utilizing an iPad to report on the contractors’ work, men, equipment, materials used, conformance with the contract requirements and provide measurement of the quantities for the work performed.
  • Other inspection duties may include material sampling and testing, monitor and report on contractor’s schedule, and attend progress and jobsite meetings.


What You'll Bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and experience with highway/structure construction inspection. 
  • A minimum of two years of experience in transportation construction or a related field is required.  This requirement may also be satisfied by completing 60 credit hours in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university.        Additionally, applicants holding an Associates Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying or Surveying Technology from and accredited institution will be considered to as having met the two-year experience requirement.   
  • Ability to work independently and/or supervise staff as needed by client. 
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • The following certifications are preferred; however, they will be required to be obtained with the first year of employment.  All associated costs will be covered by the company.
    1. MARTCP for Field Asphalt
    2. MARTCP Field Concrete 
    3. MDE Responsible Person
    4. SHA E&S Yellow Card
    5. 10 Hour OSHA
    6. Temporary Traffic Control Manager Certification
