Our head office in Kingsville, ON is seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Senior Tax Manager to lead our tax Canadian and US function in a fast-paced environment. In this role, you will be supporting the Senior Director of Tax to developing and execute tax strategies, ensuring full compliance with Canadian and US tax laws, and overseeing internal tax reporting and cash tax optimization. The role reports to the Senior Tax Director in Kingsville, Ontario.

Primary Responsibilities:
Tax Strategy & Compliance:
- Oversee the preparation and timely filing of federal and provincial/state tax returns and ensure all filing deadlines are met.
- Oversee the preparation and timely filing of sales tax filings and Sales + Use tax filings, US property tax filings, and US nexus analysis
- Stay current on legislative changes and regulatory updates to ensure ongoing compliance with Canadian and US tax regulations.
- Assist with developing transfer pricing strategies, and ensuring Contemporaneous Documentation is maintained
- Review and/or prepare tax provisions, as required (ASPE 3465)
- Support Senior Tax Director in special projects, managing risks and opportunities, and other strategic initiatives as they arise
Tax Advisory & Research:
- Conduct thorough tax research and analysis for complex scenarios, ensuring accurate interpretation of tax legislation.
- Identify and implement innovative tax-saving opportunities without compromising compliance standards
Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage, mentor, and develop small tax team, ensuring continuous professional growth and high performance.
- Guide junior staff in preparing detailed tax documentation and resolving complex tax issues.
- Foster a collaborative work environment and lead regular training sessions on tax updates and best practices.
Audit & Process Improvement:
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax authorities, and third-party advisors during tax audits and inquiries.
- Maintain robust internal controls and systems for accurate tax reporting and risk management.
- Continuously assess and refine tax processes to drive efficiency and improve reporting accuracy
- Support Senior Tax Director in identifying and implementing Tech strategies to drive efficiency
Education/Background Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation (or equivalent) is required.
- In-Depth Tax Course strongly recommended
- A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in Canadian or US taxation, including tax compliance, planning, and research.
- Experience in, or exposure to both US and Canadian Corporate tax, an willingness to quickly learn and adapt to any Country in which experience is not in-depth (US vs Canada)
- Proven experience in managing tax audits, strategic tax planning, compliance and reporting
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Technical & Analytical Skills:
- In-depth understanding of Canadian and US tax laws, regulations, and guidelines.
- Proficiency in specialized tax software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with strong attention to detail.
Communication & Leadership:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively liaise with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and regulatory bodies.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities
- Experience in both Canadian and US Compliance
- Experience in managing complex tax audits and cross-functional tax projects.
- Ability to negotiate and clearly articulate tax-related issues and recommendations.
- Familiarity with international tax considerations and cross-border tax planning is an asset.
- Proven track record of process improvement and driving operational efficiencies within the tax department.
Working Conditions:
- Typical office environment.
- May periodically travel to visit locations in USA and Canada.
