Job Description
To lead and inspire a high-performing Global Markets Sales team to originate, deliver, and grow a comprehensive suite of GM products and services within the country. Drive strategic execution, revenue acceleration, and exceptional client experiences by championing innovation, cross-functional collaboration, and insight-led decision-making. Ensure seamless transaction execution across local and international branches while upholding the highest standards of compliance, risk management, and operational excellence. Serve as a catalyst for market relevance and sustained value creation in alignment with the Global Markets and Client strategy.
Key Responsibilities
🔹 Client Management & Origination
- Own and expand a portfolio of strategic client relationships in partnership with Client Coverage, positioning the bank as a trusted advisor.
- Originate and deliver flow and structured solutions that align with client needs and market trends.
- Lead impactful client engagements and proposal development that secure mandates and contribute to revenue growth.
- Collaborate across CIB functions to deliver integrated client solutions and maximize cross-sell opportunities.
🔹 Product Development & Innovation
- Champion ongoing innovation and diversification of Global Markets offerings to drive sustainable revenue.
- Translate client insights, market intelligence, and regulatory shifts into new and enhanced product solutions.
- Differentiate the bank through early identification of market trends and delivery of tailored, future-fit solutions.
- Drive adoption of digital sales tools and self-service platforms to enhance the client experience and optimize efficiency.
- Partner with Trading and Coverage to embed product priorities into national sales strategies and action plans.
🔹 Client Experience & Execution Oversight
- Oversee seamless, compliant end-to-end onboarding in collaboration with Client Experience and Operations (KYC, legal, regulatory).
- Coordinate cross-stakeholder collaboration to resolve issues and ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Act as a senior escalation point for key client and operational challenges, ensuring prompt and client-centric resolution.
🔹 Data, Insights & Portfolio Management
- Leverage analytics, market data, and research to produce actionable insights and guide strategic decisions.
- Monitor sales performance, pipeline metrics, and client behavior to inform interventions and achieve commercial targets.
- Deliver insight-led reporting to senior stakeholders that influence portfolio steering, pricing, and risk management.
🔹 Risk, Governance & Compliance
- Lead the continuous review and optimisation of GM Sales processes, systems, and tools for enhanced performance and risk control.
- Ensure full adherence to all legal, risk, and compliance standards in partnership with internal governance teams.
- Proactively identify and resolve risks related to transactions, controls, and operational exposures.
🔹 Leadership & Team Development
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performance sales team by instilling accountability, clarity of purpose, and strategic alignment.
- Set and manage performance expectations aligned to sales objectives, team scorecards, and individual development goals.
- Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, innovation, and ethical decision-making across the team.
🔹 Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and sustain strong external stakeholder relationships to protect business interests and elevate brand credibility.
- Navigate complex issues with integrity and professionalism, acting as an ambassador for the bank’s values and reputation.
🔹 Thought Leadership
- Represent the franchise at industry forums, market roundtables, and associations, promoting Standard Bank’s visibility and insights.
- Contribute to public and professional dialogue on market trends, innovation, and client needs, positioning the bank as a thought leader.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Degree in Business Commerce, Finance or Accounting
Professional Qualifications: CA, CFA, ACI, FAIS
Experience
Over 10 years experience in Global Markets Sales
A proven track record across client management, sales and / or client execution, portfolio management and new business development.
Demonstrable GM product knowledge in flow and structured products.
Experience planning and leading a team in the generation of revenue and achievement of high performance against targets. Demonstration of sophisticated levels of communication and negotiation skills to interacts with others across multiple functions required.
Structured transaction origination and client solutioning.
Advanced understanding of financial and global markets as well as risk and regulatory environments and license holder obligations in relevant jurisdictions. Demonstrated management capability with team building and leading, tactical decision making, and negotiating skills.
