The Role
Save the Children’s ability to engage and influence the UN is central to our aim of creating lasting positive change for the world’s most deprived and marginalised children. The role holder will support the Global Diplomacy, Engagement Director and UN Representative and the broader team to ensure strategic thinking, planning and operationalization of Save the Children’s engagement at the United Nations and multilateral fora's including the AU and Gulf. They will support the organisational ambition in global diplomacy and engagement, ensuring a unified and coordination approach towards the UN, its agencies and delegations, and the civil society organisations active in this arena. They will provide operational management, oversight and backend office support including line management of the award funded programs and projects and roles across the advocacy offices. The post holder will make a key contribution to our global advocacy success in our priority areas and will have delegated representational responsibilities, continually seeking to strengthen our position and credibility as the world’s leading child rights organisation. The role holder works closely with colleagues from across the organisation to drive changes for children.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

- Support in driving the strategic direction and management of diplomatic and political analysis to generate impactful external engagement that informs Save the Children's policy and advocacy efforts with and towards the UN, connecting it to the work at the AU and in the Gulf
- Lead the contextual analysis in the unit to support global diplomacy and engagement priorities and shape child rights and humanitarian policy by providing timely analysis of contexts, regional dynamics, and global trends relevant to the UN space
- Represent Save the Children in key NGO, inter-governmental, and UN fora to advocate for policies and perspectives that uphold the rights and well-being of children, partners, and communities we serve.
- Oversee and support the preparation and briefing of Save the Children’s leadership for external representation at the UN, ensuring coherent and unified messaging in line with Save the Children’s strategy.
- Cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the humanitarian and child rights sector linked to the units scope at a global level to enhance collective advocacy efforts, fostering an environment of trust, mutual respect, and shared objectives.
- Establish and lead an operational platform for the new unit across the advocacy offices to leverage internal capacities, harmonise efforts, and drive a unified operational and advocacy agenda including supporting the streamlining of the engagement across the UN portfolios and networks.
- Resource management and oversight including on budget and operational activities for the offices in NY, Geneva, Addis Ababa and Gulf by stewarding the donor engagement with member and account holders. This includes being the budget holder in specific locations and the key business partner on operational, administrative, legal, compliance and financial matters and ensuring full compliance of Save the Children policies and procedures and local legislative requirements as well as relevant donor compliances.
- Ensure a meaningful and ethical child centred advocacy and safe participation approach to engagement within the wider global diplomacy and engagement UN strategy through collaboration with relevant teams and offices ensuring Save the Children’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Gender, Diversity, Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded.
Required qualifications for the role
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 10 years of relevant experience
- Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
Preferred qualifications
- Advanced degree in Public Policy, International Relations, Human Rights or a related field
- Additional UN languages preferred
Compensation
Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:
- Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $131,750 – $147,250 base salary
- Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $119,850 – $133,950 base salary
- Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $107,950 – $120,650 base salary
The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record. Actual base salary may vary based on, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here).
