Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Planning Technician, PSI (Patient Specific Instrumentation) is responsible for ensuring surgical case information is provided correct and timely to support the planning, coordination, and logistical execution of customized, 3D-printed surgical solutions tailored to individual patients. This role serves as a key point of contact ensuring seamless coordination between surgeons, imaging centers, sales representatives, engineers, and operations teams
The Planning Technician, PSI plays a crucial role in ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction in the PSI process.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the planning and design of patient-specific instrumentation for surgical correction of foot deformities.
- Review Patient Specific Instrumentation case intake data including surgeon prescription forms, CT Scans, and X-Rays for completeness and protocol compliance; escalate issues as necessary.
- Collaborate with clinical review process stakeholders to ensure surgeon and sales representative communication is accurate and timely.
- Communicates deadlines for file submission to surgeons and sales representatives to achieve timely delivery of patient-specific instrumentation prior to the requested surgery date.
- Ensure Patient Specific case data is appropriately linked to surgical case folders.
- Perform 3D segmentation of CT scans and measurements on medical images (X-Rays)
- Create manufacturing work orders, manufacturing routers, and submit orders to external manufacturing suppliers for patient-specific instrumentation.
- Perform CT scans on cadaveric specimens for research, marketing, and sales labs.
- Coordinates with Marketing and Medical Education departments to process cadaveric demonstration labs.
- Identifies and implements continuous improvement of the Patient Specific Instrumentation process including case intake, segmentation, and communication.
- Assist in coordinating virtual case reviews and planning calls with surgeons as needed.
- Communicates and records surgical case information updates such as surgery date changes, case type changes, and outstanding information required for case intake.
- Communicates to reps and surgeon customers when files have been received correctly or that files are still outstanding.
- Serves as administrator for PSI surgeon accounts, verifies contact information is correct
- Updates databases with surgical case information as needed including QuickBase, NetSuite, and TMC Surgeon Portal
- Ensures compliance with HIPAA and internal quality assurance standards
Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma required; Associate's degree in life sciences, healthcare administration, or a related field is preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in customer relations interacting with surgeons and/or sales reps is required; (experience with patient-specific or custom medical devices is preferred).
- Prior experience working with physicians or medical practices in orthopedics or spine is preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with planning software or 3D CAD tools is a plus.
