Department Overview

The Business Support Development Department within the Commerce & Marketing Company is responsible for a portion of the Rakuten Merchant Server (RMS) – an ASP service provided to merchants on Rakuten Ichiba – as well as various applications that support the business staff who operate Rakuten Ichiba both domestically and internationally.

Specifically, our section develops, operates, and provides systems for Rakuten Ichiba merchants, including chat inquiry functionality between merchants and Rakuten, and between merchants and shoppers, AI chatbot functionality for merchants, as well as data analytics systems that visualize data on merchant operations.

For this position, we are seeking a Project Manager to manage and promote the development project for the above system.

Position Details

As a Project Manager for the development projects of Rakuten Ichiba merchant-facing features mentioned above, you will be responsible for:

Project Management and Execution

- Plan projects, manage schedules, monitor progress, and conduct risk management

- Manage project scope, budget, and delivery timelines while ensuring quality standards are met

- Lead project operations using Agile/Waterfall development methodologies

- Identify project issues and risks early and implement appropriate countermeasures

Stakeholder Management

- Coordinate between Product Managers, engineers, designers, QA teams, and other stakeholders etc.

- Conduct requirement coordination, specification confirmation, and progress reporting with business departments

- Provide regular reports to management on status, issues, risks, and achievements

Team Operations and Resource Management

- Optimize development team resource allocation to improve productivity

- Support team member motivation management and performance improvement

- Prioritize and coordinate resources when multiple projects run in parallel

Process Improvement

- Propose and implement continuous improvements to development processes

- Promote the introduction and utilization of project management tools

- Drive the sharing and standardization of best practices

 

Work Environment

The Client Section is divided into three groups based on roles: DEV/PJM, PDM, and SRE.

The PDM and DEV/PJM teams collaborate to develop and operate the services mentioned above.

Since our offices are in Tokyo, Osaka, and Sendai, remote communication may be required depending on the service.

 

Mandatory Qualifications:

- 5+ years of experience as a Project Manager or in a similar role

- Experience managing development teams of 10+ members

- Practical experience with Agile development methodologies (Scrum, etc.)

- Hands-on experience with project management tools (JIRA, Redmine, etc.)

- Strong stakeholder coordination and negotiation skills

- Excellent communication and facilitation skills

 

Desired Qualifications:

- Project management certifications such as PMP or Scrum Master

- Experience with web service or e-commerce site development projects

- Experience managing multiple projects concurrently

- Experience managing remote teams

- Practical experience in system development or engineering

- Experience with budget and cost management

- Experience driving process and organizational improvements
