Materials Specialists perform all responsibilities of basic material handling. This includes, communicating with purchasing department buyers, planners, supervisors, and key customer contacts to resolve issues and complete tasks. Materials Specialists also coordinate team projects including quality teams and systems/procedures improvement teams; may participate in cross functional teams as departmental representative. They are also responsible for completion, documentation and recognition for area/shift projects.
Responsibilities
- Maintain an organized work area, to maximize efficiency, by keeping equipment inspected and process areas clean
- Organize and prioritize materials/deliveries based on customer needs
- Implement suggestions and ideas deemed necessary for continuous improvement
- Provide clear, concise, written, and verbal communication
- Participates in area meetings
- Communicates with Materials Operations’ leadership
- Provide accurate pass down of shift information
- Receive and transport materials to and from the appropriate delivery locations across the site
- Operate equipment (i.e. delivery vehicles, powered or manual pallet jacks)
- Use various applications (i.e., basic MS Office programs, MERC functionality, PRR, Reqit, MATREQ/MATRETURN, Critical Shortage, Shipdoc/Shipout, SAP, and Pack Track)
- Use advanced SAP functions, such as finished goods, product shipping, and inventory control
- Troubleshoot data and processing errors
- Monitor and reports systematic daily task completion reports (i.e., VL06, LX09, PackTrack Summary)
- Document all area discrepancies for use in metrics and continuous improvement efforts
- Promote departmental policies, procedures, and goals
- Manages the critical shortages process
- Provide assistance and serve as a point of contact to internal/external customers and buyers
- Mentor customer groups in Materials procedures and functions
- Accesses and implements area Safety and process procedures
- Actively participates in the EHSS Program
- Identifies potential hazards and communicates them to other team members
- Uses due diligence in the recognition of suspicious packages
- Oversees and ensure adherence to security protocols
- Assists in training team members on area processes and procedures
- Assists in documentation of area training needs
- Delegate responsibilities to team members as required to ensure workload coverage
Minimum Qualifications
- Basic PC skills including MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Able to lift up to 40lbs
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Previous warehouse experience
