We are looking for a Communications Engineer with a passion for building robust, modern, and reliable communication platforms to join our team and play a key role in shaping the digital workplace at St Vincent's. Reporting to the Unified Communications Manager, you will be responsible for the design, delivery, and support of our enterprise-wide voice, video, and collaboration platforms. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring a secure and scalable environment that enables our staff to deliver exceptional and compassionate care. 

This is a Permanent Full-Time position based in any of our Group Head Offices in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne on a hybrid working arrangement – 3 days a week in office and 2 days working from home. In this role, there will be a requirement to work on-call as needed. 

Key responsibilities of the role:  

  • Act as a Tier 3 technical leader and 2IC to the Unified Communications Manager, providing expert support for critical platforms like Teams Voice and nurse call systems 

  • Take end-to-end accountability for the performance and clinical readiness of our life-critical communications infrastructure 

  • Drive continuous improvement by leading incident investigations, problem management, and identifying opportunities for service and cost optimisation 

  • Manage telco billing, usage optimisation, and lead vendor engagement to ensure value and risk mitigation 

  • Provide operational leadership and mentorship to a team of Level 1 and 2 Field Engineers 

  • Contribute to new site implementations and UC upgrades, ensuring a smooth service transition from projects to daily operations 

  • Act as a key escalation point for UC-related incidents, providing executive-level communication during high-impact events 

 

Things that work for us: 

  • Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience in unified communications, telephony, or network support roles within a complex, multi-site environment 

  • Experience in a healthcare or regulated environment, participation in UC transformation programs, and scripting or automation experience are highly desirable 

  • Proven expertise in fault isolation, configuration management, and patching of UC/telephony platforms 

  • Demonstrated experience with a range of technologies, including PABX, Teams Voice, nurse call systems, and mobile device management (MDM), and familiarity with contact centre platforms like Genesys 

  • Strong understanding of telecommunications billing, expense management, and reporting and prior management of cost centres and coordinating with finance and procurement teams 

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles related to voice infrastructure, including vulnerability management and access controls, experience applying ITIL v4 processes and familiarity with compliance frameworks like ISO27001 and SOCI 

  • Experience coordinating vendors, managed service providers (MSPs), and telco support teams to resolve incidents and deliver operational improvements 

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent industry experience and certifications such as CCNA, Microsoft Certified: Teams Voice Engineer Associate, and ITIL v4 Foundation
