Job Description: Underwriting Assistant
How does this role contribute to our collective success?
Our Underwriting Assistants provide support and assistance to the Underwriting teams principally in London but may also include other AXIS locations through some lines of business.
The role involves conducting tasks that ensure AXIS underwriters deliver optimal customer services that meet our clients’ needs and continue to build our growth as a leading specialty insurer and global reinsurer. The UA is responsible for delivering high-quality and efficient service to both internal and external clients, serving as a critical partner to the underwriting teams. Working closely with the Assistant Underwriter (AU) and underwriting teams, the UA focuses on maintaining service excellence in supporting the book of business, and achieving key metrics in retention, profitability, and growth.
This is a varied Operations role that will provide a clear pathway to developing your knowledge and skills as a solid foundation for an insurance career.
What will you do in this role?
Underwriting Services
Responsible for delivering the operations process by gathering and organising insurance application information, managing documentation and entry of data
Develop an understanding of the operations process and associated terminology
Provide support in processing policy endorsements, renewals, cancellations, and other policy related transactions
Work with relevant teams in maintaining beneficial working relationships with brokers and clients to develop the business in accordance with the business plan
Develop strong up to date product knowledge affecting the company line of business and insurance industry
Serve as a point of contact between operations and underwriters providing optimal customer service
Liaise with other areas of the business to address enquiries, resolve issues, and ensure efficient workflow within the team
Produce and/or assist in the completion of reports and ensure timely distribution to the relevant parties
Adhere rigorously to compliance standards while maintaining accurate account files and underwriting documentation
Have responsibility for pre-bind checks and ensuring compliance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements
Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency enhancement within service delivery and underwriting operations
Maximise opportunities to develop knowledge and your own professional development using the career pathway provided
Ensure the client experience always meets the AXIS values

About You:

What you need to have:
Minimum of A level qualification or equivalent required
Demonstrable passion or desire to work in the insurance industry
Ability to follow directions effectively
Self-motivation and capable of working independently
Effective time management skills and highly organized
Demonstrable collaboration skills, working effectively with team members to achieve goals
Adaptability, maintaining a positive approach in dynamic environments
Attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to multitask in a high-volume work environment
Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development. Commencement of CII qualification highly recommended
What we prefer you to have:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
Aptitude for learning new computer/software programs
Good verbal, written and interpersonal skills

In this role, you will typically be required to:
