MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB (BRIEF SUMMARY)

The Principal Compliance Specialist is primarily responsible for the execution of Ethics and Compliance investigations within the Office of Integrity, Privacy and Compliance (OPIC). This role conducts investigations, including interviews, reviewing and analyzing documents, and will ensure timely, thorough, and efficient investigation of ethics and compliance concerns primarily throughout Asia Region-Led Markets and Japan, Australia & New Zealand. This role requires a level of regular engagement with business and operating units, regional ethics and compliance partners, and other relevant stakeholders enterprise-wide to effectively conduct investigations. In addition, this position requires a high level of collaboration with key stakeholders such as legal, compliance, audit, and employee relations to ensure personnel are consulted, as appropriate. This role is responsible for handling of complex and sensitive matters. Interaction with all levels of employees, including internal management, legal and compliance teams as required. Finally, this role will be required to coordinate and communicate across functions to ensure senior leadership is kept up to date on investigations and trends.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:

  • Develop and execute an investigative plan consistent with established policies and procedures.

  • Document work using appropriate systems, tools and templates.

  • Plan, conduct and manage timely, thorough, and efficient ethics and compliance investigations.

  • Work closely with global legal and compliance leaders, as needed.

  • Coordinate with stakeholders throughout the investigations process, report on outcomes, and participate in the remediation process.

  • Assist in the training and support of other compliance matter investigators, ensuring consistent and effective execution of the investigation process.

  • Provide routine reporting to senior leaders across functions on investigation status, trending, insights, etc.

  • Collaborate and communicate across various functions in Asia Region-Led Market and Japan, Australia & New Zealand and  to provide oversight to all investigations in those areas (regardless of the function conducting the investigation).

  • Foster and support an ethical culture throughout the organization.

                                                                             

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6-9 years relevant experience in conducting compliance investigations in a regulated or similar setting; or a relevant advanced degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Experience conducting compliance investigations of varied case-types, including: compliance violations, improper payments/kickbacks, financial statement fraud/accounting irregularities, conflicts of interest, collusion, FCPA violations and records falsification.

  • Experience managing large/varied case loads.

  • Ability to apply company policies and procedures in relation to complex investigations.

  • Experience conducting and managing investigations under legal privilege (at the direction of counsel).

  • Ability to successfully work within a complex organization, including collaboration with multiple stakeholders/functions.

  • Must have strong integrity and character, including strict adherence to confidentiality

  • Must uphold organizational standards, have uncompromising personal and professional integrity

  • Experience with state/federal health care compliance laws (e.g., Anti-kickback Statute, patient inducement laws, etc.)

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • English fluency

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong written & verbal communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to respectfully conduct interviews

  • Prior auditing/accounting experience

  • Prior experience conducting audits of distributors

  • Demonstrated skill in formulating strategies, tactics and action plans to achieve results

  • Strong focus on developing an organizational culture that fosters teamwork

  • CPA and/or CFE certification desired

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance

  • JD or other legal degree
