Contract up to 5 Months    Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our Network Planning Office within Planning & Development Division is looking to hire an Analyst to conduct technical transportation analysis in support of corporate business, regional, and long-range planning objectives.

 

What will I be doing?

  • Analyzes and supports the development of regional and other transportation plans to accommodate growth, changing markets, provincial policies, and municipal transportation implementation plans; reviews and prepares corporate responses to studies, contracts, projects, development proposals, and other proposals by external stakeholders that provide relevant technical commentary, conclusions and recommendations
  • Supports transportation planning projects, by:
    • Coordinating research projects and schedules (i.e. identifies and monitors actions and responsible parties), and recommends corrections to identified project issues
    • Formulating objectives, preparing data collection tools, tabulating and analyzing data
    • Researching transportation requirements and services provided by other transportation systems 
    • Analyzing results and developing recommendations to support departmental projects and future initiatives
  • Maintains and applies computer-based analytical tools to assess planning issues and proposals (e.g. modelling, Geographic Information Systems (GIS)) and analyze other quantitative data) 
  • Represents Metrolinx when dealing with external parties and the public to provide information to external stakeholders with respect to Metrolinx planning initiatives

 

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Completion of a degree in Transportation Engineering or Planning, Land Use Planning, Environmental Science, Business Administration or related field or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in transportation planning, preferably in the public sector
  • Knowledge of the theory, principles, research methodologies, and practices of transportation and land-use planning (e.g. standards and requirements of ministries and governing bodies)
  • Analytical skills and experience with technical analysis, undertaking literature reviews, and conducting internet and survey research using spreadsheets and database applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Access)
  • Interpersonal and oral/written communication and consultation skills to develop and present research findings and analyses and obtain cooperation with other offices throughout the organization
  • Practical experience with GIS software and transportation data analysis is an asset
