Reporting to the Engineering Organization, the Electrical Engineer designs, develops, and improves new and existing products using sound engineering principles. He/she provides technical support to manufacturing, sustaining, and field operations, troubleshooting electrical problems from the component level to the system level. He/she also supports the field service department in troubleshooting Drilling rig electrical control system problems. He/she creates bills of materials, drawings, and assembly instructions. He/she may mentor designers, technicians, and engineers.
- Generates and reviews documents such as design requirements, block diagrams, flowcharts, wiring diagrams, harness drawings, bills of materials, test plans, test procedures, inspection procedures, user’s manuals, and maintenance manuals etc
- Performs engineering calculations as required
- Designs electrical rig packages with integrated systems for power distribution and controls tailored to specific rigs.
- Conducts installation and commissioning of various oilfield equipment for DC/AC rigs.
- Provides support for rigging up, commissioning, FAT, endurance tests, as required.
- Creates test fixture, test setup, and test equipment for engineering, manufacturing, sustaining, and field operation from component level to system level
- Performs hands-on tests, completes reports, and does results analysis promptly
- Experience with VFD architecture, Inductive / Resistive loads, MCCs, Switchgear / Transformer sizing, Relay Logic, Generator Control hardware, SCR Drives, Electrical System Grounding and Bonding techniques
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Performs hands-on work in design, test, shop work, field test, and field operation support in rig location
- Effectively work with the team, group, and the organization.
- Participates in meetings within the organization and with vendors, clients, contract manufacturers, and other relevant parties
- Performs multi-tasking across engineering, sustaining, manufacturing, and field operation groups
- Design and installation of electrical systems as per API, IEEE, ANSI, NFPA, IECEx, ATEX and UL codes and standards
- Performs development engineering for both new and existing products
- Maintains product safety in all designs
- Participates in company safety meetings and safety awareness
- Performs design prototyping, including field implementation and testing
- Follows required regulatory codes
- Other duties may be assigned.

- Support and participate on achieving organizational QHSE objectives.
- Other duties may be assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 10+ years of electrical experience or equivalent.
- 10+years of electrical experience in Drilling Systems and Equipment.
- Ability to read, comprehend and write in English.
- Ability to effectively present technical information to colleagues, customers and vendors.
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering is Preferred.
- Essential engineering expertise – electrical design, control systems, power generation, and system interface.
- General computer proficiency.
- Knowledge of drafting principles, including CAD.
- Knowledge of engineering software, such as MATLAB, is a plus.
- Knowledge of Quality Assurance principles as it relates to manufacturing operations.
