OPS - Lab Assistant
Classification Minimum Requirements: None. Job Description:The Nutrient Management Lab at Everglades Research and Education Center is seeking a full-time Lab Assistant (OPS) to support ongoing research in crop nutrient management. The following list is not all-inclusive, nor does it cover the full extent of duties to be performed:
- Conduct field, greenhouse and laboratory studies
- Conduct routine and specialized soil nutrient analyses.
- Prepare soil samples (e.g., weighing soils, extracting, aliquoting) and chemical reagents.
- Maintain clean, organized laboratory spaces and adhere to safety protocols.
- Support general lab operations (inventory, equipment upkeep).
$17 - $19/hour, commensurate with experience and education
Required Qualifications:- A strong soil/plant science or soil chemistry background with hands-on field and laboratory experience is preferred.
- Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., spreadsheets or statistical software) is a plus.
- Familiarity with data collection tools and software (Excel, etc.).
- Lab experience.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with the research team.
- Available to work full time, 40 hours a week, usually 8:00 am – 5:00pm.
- Physical ability to work in various weather conditions and perform manual labor as needed.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds regularly.
- Physical movement includes kneeling, squatting, bending, lifting and standing.
