Are you a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse looking to make a difference in outpatient care? Prairie Band Health Services is hiring a full-time Contract/Travel Outpatient Clinic RN to serve at the Woodrow Wilson Keeble Memorial Health Care Center (WWKMHCC) Indian Health Service (IHS) facility in Sisseton, South Dakota.

You’ll be part of a mission-driven healthcare team working to improve access and outcomes within the Lake Traverse Reservation community.

Position Overview:

• Location: WWKMHCC, 100 Lake Traverse Drive, Sisseton, SD 57262 
• Facility Type: Indian Health Service (IHS) outpatient clinic 
• Position Type: 1099 Long-term Federal Contract
• Duration: 13 weeks up to 1 year, with potential for extension 
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (40 hours/week) 
• Start Date: October 
• Licensure: Active RN license from any U.S. state accepted 
• Certifications: BLS required; PALS preferred 
• Experience Required: 
  • Minimum 2 years RN experience 
  • Background in outpatient, family medicine, or urgent care settings 
  • Prior IHS experience strongly preferred 
  • ADN required; BSN preferred 
• Open to both local and travel-based RNs 

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct nursing assessments and implement patient-specific care plans 
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed 
• Monitor patient conditions and respond to clinical changes 
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and clinical staff 
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans and preventive care 
• Maintain complete and timely documentation in the electronic health record 
• Perform procedures such as wound care, catheterizations, and support during imaging 
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinic meetings 
• Ensure care is delivered in accordance with IHS policies and federal standards

Duties may evolve based on operational needs. Flexibility, a collaborative mindset, and strong communication skills are essential.

Indian Preference Exercised:
Prairie Band, LLC complies with Title 22: Employment Code of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. This position is classified as Tier 2, and preference will be given to qualified individuals as outlined in Section 22-2-4(B).

Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN) –

• Minimum of (2) two years experience required as an RN
• RN Nursing experience in an Acute Care Setting required
• Graduated from a National League of Nursing, Accredited Nursing Program
• Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree, or Diploma from an accredited professional nursing education program as an RN is required.
• Active BLS (Basic Life Support) Required, PALS preferred
• Applicant must have active and unrestricted, current licensure as a Professional Registered Nurse (RN) in any State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Flexibility to work varying shifts and schedules
• Must be a US citizen living primarily in the United States
• Must be willing to pass a federal background check
