We’re seeking a thoughtful and strategic Director of Finance to join our Executive Team and help guide the Co-op’s financial future.
What You'll Do
The Director of Finance for Weavers Way Co-op serves as the organization’s Controller, and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Co-op’s accounting and finance department, and for planning, developing, and implementing policies and programs necessary for the effective management of the Co-op’s financial affairs.
As the Director of Finance, you’ll lead financial strategy, planning, and operations across the organization. You’ll work closely with the General Manager and Executive Team to ensure fiscal health, regulatory compliance, and long-term sustainability.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute short- and long-term financial strategies
- Oversee treasury management, cash flow, and investments
- Lead budgeting processes and financial forecasting
- Manage accounting systems and ensure GAAP compliance
- Coordinate annual audits and tax filings
- Provide timely, accurate financial reports to internal and external stakeholders
- Oversee payroll, benefits, and business insurance
- Maintain member equity records and patronage refunds
- Serve as a financial advisor to the General Manager, Board of Directors, and department leaders
- Supervise and develop finance/accounting staff
- Participate in strategic planning and risk evaluation
Quality Standards
You’ll be expected to:
- Communicate budget goals clearly across departments
- Track and reforecast performance against business plans
- Ensure timely and accurate payroll, vendor payments, and 401(k) contributions
- Maintain compliance with all financial regulations
- Support store managers in improving financial performance
- Attend monthly Board meetings and contribute to strategic discussions
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred)
- 7+ years of financial management experience, ideally in retail or mission-driven organizations
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills
- Comfort with financial software and data analysis
- Ability to work collaboratively in a consensus-oriented environment
- Strategic mindset with a hands-on approach
Additional Details
- This role is primarily on-site at our Mt. Airy administrative offices
- Occasional travel to Co-op locations required
- Light lifting (up to 15 lbs.) and prolonged computer use
- Attendance at monthly Board meetings (typically first Tuesday of each month)
