Summary:

The VP/Director of Operations is responsible for leading and managing companywide operations, with a focus on profitability and growth as the company continues to expand on a national basis. This key leadership position is responsible for maintaining existing operations and also implementing the company’s strategic plan. With key objectives to achieve scalability and repeatability, including sustaining and advancing service offerings, increasing revenue and return, minimizing risk to the company, and enhancing employee development and satisfaction. 

This position requires an experienced operator that has proven success of taking over an established business, identifying efficiency opportunities, streamlining processes and growing revenue with new and existing customers. 

This position reports to the President of Fortress Fencing and will be based out of the greater Raleigh Durham & Chapel Hill area.

Relocation assistance may be available to qualified candidates.


Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage operations with a focus on growth and business optimization on a national basis.
  • Ensure that operations are effectively and efficiently coordinated, implemented, and conducted within the framework of the overall corporate strategy.
  • Instill a strong commitment to safety and the importance of safety measures across the organization.
  • Develop business plans in coordination with the President and outline strategic goals with detailed plans for execution.
  • Set operational and/or performance goals which are aggressive, achievable, and meet or exceed long-term goals.
  • Establish and measure goals based on sales, profit, and other performance criteria.
  • Advise the President on key planning issues and make recommendations on key strategic decisions.
  • Ensure that operations management supports the business strategy and is aligned with overall corporate strategic objectives.
  • Review operational and financial performance and take corrective action when necessary to address problems and correct operational deficiencies.
  • Develop a supportive organizational culture that fosters high-performing, crossfunctional teams.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute sales and business development strategies to increase revenue and profitability.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to senior management and BOD.
  • Leverage existing relationships to create new client opportunities.
  • Oversee and manage project risk with respect to solicitation, bidding, and ongoing management through project staffing and execution.
  • Assess management capabilities and requirements, and develop methods to attract, recruit, and retain a talented management team to meet those needs.
  • Ensure a high-performance culture through effective executive performance management, communication, and coaching.

Demonstrate a working knowledge of, and commitment to, compliance with all laws, regulations and corporate policy to ensure the highest of ethics in business conduct.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, skills and abilities)

  • Twelve-plus years of experience in the construction industry, preferably with a background in the energy and/or industrial market sectors.
  • Strong preference for experience in the renewable energy sector.
  • Management experience with a focus on growth and business optimization.
  • Must have a strong safety track record along with a commitment to safety and the value of safety policies and procedures.
  • Successful track record managing operations with profit and loss responsibility.
  • At least 5 years’ experience bidding and estimating projects.
  • Change Management 
  • Contract Management and negotiation
  • Preferred candidates will have experience working with energy and industrial clients in the construction industry, including a solid network of industry contacts and access to a wide range of resources.
  • Risk management
  • Proven leadership skills with demonstrated successful experience managing staff organizations, inspiring a team, and overseeing recruitment and retention.
  • Must have a personal commitment to organizational excellence, displaying honesty, integrity, and a strong sense of ethics in all decisions and actions. 

Education

  • 4-year degree in Construction Management/Science preferred Or individual with 15+ years of continuous experience in construction and/or construction services.
