The Capital Budgets Analyst is responsible for managing the accounting and financial reporting of capital projects. This role ensures compliance with internal accounting policies and GAAP, supports the capital budgeting process, and provides accurate, timely analysis of capital expenditures (CapEx) and asset-related transactions. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation with an eye for process improvement and financial accuracy.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Track and monitor capital expenditures to ensure proper accounting treatment in accordance with GAAP and company policy
  • Review project costs to determine capitalization vs. expense classification and ensure accurate asset creation in the general ledger
  • Collaborate with project managers, procurement, and accounts payable to validate the accuracy of capital spending and ensure proper coding
  • Reconcile construction-in-progress (CIP) accounts and ensure timely project close-out and asset capitalization
  • Maintain the fixed asset subledger, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and transfers
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting on capital projects and fixed asset activity
  • Assist in the development and management of the annual capital budget and forecast updates
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and analysis of capital transactions
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance capital accounting controls and reporting accuracy
  • Coordinate with procurement, construction, warehousing, accounting and AP departments to ensure capital expenditures transactions flow in accordance with design and adhere to all internal controls.

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in accounting, preferably with exposure to fixed asset accounting or capital project tracking
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, especially as it pertains to capital assets and depreciation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting softwares
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA certification preferred.
