Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a senior professional Building Services Engineer to join our Facilities Management team.
The main purpose of the position is to help establish and communicate Facilities Management’s functional and quality standards for all building and infrastructure capital projects and to identify, plan, design and manage the upgrade or replacement of obsolete, inadequate or worn-out building services, plant and systems.
With the Estates strategy in place, you will also ensure that new building services, plant, systems and infrastructure meet the University’s current and projected functional and operational requirements.
Ngā Haepapa Matua | Key Responsibilities (not limited too):
- Assist with contract observation in order to ensure that the build quality and maintainability of building services installations are satisfactory.
- Identify obsolete, inefficient and hazardous building services plant and equipment and recommend actions to be taken.
- Provide high-level technical support to the building services trades staff and technicians.
- Assist with the operational monitoring and management of building services systems in order to ensure that faults are reported, energy consumption is minimised, appropriate environmental conditions are maintained, and maintenance costs are minimised.
- Ensure that project managers, consultants, designers and contractors are instructed on building services policies and operational requirements
A large part of this role will be working with our consultants and contractors to ensure a high level of service and delivery is upheld. Health and Safety are of the utmost importance.

This is a full-time (37.5 hrs per week), fixed-term role – Monday to Friday based on-site
The remuneration is $110,100 - $149,000 per annum, dependent on skills and experience
About you | He kōrero mōu
As an experienced Building Services Engineer, our ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to influence and communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. They will have the technical background to understand projects from multiple viewpoints, and this will come from significant commercial and project management experience from a professional consultancy/contractor or other relevant professional environment.
Teamwork, customer focus and negotiation skills are vital to the role.
Preference will be given to candidates with a proven understanding of large-scale building portfolios and those who can demonstrate an ability to think and act strategically to provide valuable input to achieve the best long-term outcomes.
