About the Department
Job Summary
Responsibilities
Independently sees patients in Hyde Park and offsite clinics, administers, orders, and interprets diagnostic tests, such as ultrasounds, CT scans, and laboratory tests.
Examines patients to obtain information about their physical conditions.
Instructs and counsels patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, ultrasounds, and laboratory tests.
Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
Diagnoses and makes decisions about the management and treatment of patients.
Obtains, compiles, and records patient medical data, including health history, progress notes, and results of physical examination.
Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and infection management.
Prescribes therapy or medication.
Performs/assists with procedures related to the specialty being covered.
Visits and observes patients on hospital rounds, updating charts, ordering therapy, and reporting back to physicians.
May order medical and laboratory supplies and equipment.
Designs patient education programs that include information required to make informed health care and treatment decisions.
Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.
Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care.
Has a deep understanding and response to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations such as infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, or older adults. Develops and coordinates APP training and professional development activities.
Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Advanced nursing degree from an accredited school/college of nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
Experience:
Two years’ experience preferred in OB/GYN, surgical specialty, or urology-gynecology.
Licenses and Certifications:
Current Physician Assistant (PA) license/registration in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
