Job Description:

Concrete Finisher

Supervisor: Foreman

General Description of Position: Responsible for smoothing out, leveling and finishing freshly poured concrete at job or construction sites. Perform repairs on cures concrete.

Essential functions and responsibilities listed below:

  • Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure concrete surfaces
  • Set and check the forms that hold concrete to ensure they are well constructed
  • Align forms for sidewalks, curbs, and gutters
  • Direct the casting of the concrete and supervise laborers who use shovels or special tools to spread it
  • Spread, level, and smooth concrete, using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float.
  • Mold expansion joints
  • Pour concrete ensuring that it is level and smooth
  • Monitor how the wind, heat, or cold affect the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process
  • Signal truck driver to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete, and move chute to direct concrete on forms
  • Mix and apply cementitious materials for the repair of surface defects in cured concrete
  • Chip, scrape, and grind high spots, ridges, and rough projections to finish concrete, using pneumatic chisels, power grinders, or hand tools
  • Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed
  • When not performing the above essential duties and responsibilities, may assist in other operations as designated by the supervisor

Safety Policies and Practices:  The employee in this job must be knowledgeable about and follow the company’s safety policies and procedures as described in the company’s safety manual.

Specific Equipment and Materials to be used: Operate power vibrator to compact concrete, pneumatic chisel, saws, power grinder and hand tools

Education:   High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred but not necessary

Work environment: The work environment/physical demands characteristics described here are representative of those the employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and high and/ or precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
