The Team
Within the Visual Merchandising department, our mission is to drive the design and delivery of visual merchandising across DTC, eCommerce, and wholesale, in line with PVH's global brand vision and commercial objectives. This position's team serves as the backbone of our department, collaborating closely with Hub Visual Merchandising teams to ensure seamless execution of seasonal product storytelling and on-brand campaigns for all consumer channels. With an integral position in the team, this role ensures that our visual merchandising initiatives elevate the customer experience and drive commercial success.
The Position
The Retail Interior Architect is a strategic and creative role within the Visual Merchandising team, responsible for shaping and maintaining the physical retail environments that bring the brand to life across stores, shop-in-shops, showrooms, and other consumer-facing spaces. This role ensures that every branded environment—from full price stores to outlets—reflects the design DNA, storytelling, and premium positioning of each label. Your mission will be to ensure that all stakeholders' needs are balanced between outstanding brand aesthetics, excellent store functionality, and astute operational investment. You will act as a strategic partner in reviewing new and renovation store layouts, zoning, fixturing, and CAPEX proposals, bringing a critical and objective view to the planning process with a strong eye for detail and commercial awareness.
Key Responsibilities:
• Brand Environment Strategy: Develop, define, and implement the physical retail environment strategy across all store formats in alignment with global brand identity and customer experience goals.
• Store Architecture Review: Evaluate all new store and renovation plans across formats to ensure alignment with design tiering, layout flexibility, and brand identity.
• Campaign Integration & Storytelling: Translate seasonal marketing campaigns and product stories into compelling physical environments that enhance storytelling and shopper engagement within stores.
• CAPEX & OPEX Consideration: Provide objective insight on design cost impact, balancing creative vision with budget feasibility across store formats.
• Project Management: Oversee the rollout of new concept stores, remodels, and brand environment upgrades across markets. Manage timelines, budgets, and partner deliverables to ensure consistent execution.
• Tiering Strategy Application: Ensure each project reflects appropriate design standards based on store tier, commercial goals, and assortment complexity.
• Zoning & Fixturing Strategy: Recommend ideal layout, zoning and fixture solutions that support product density, retail performance, and a premium customer experience.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partnering with visual assortment teams to align on sales expectations against key areas such as total capacity, and capacity by sub-brand vs sales.
• Window & Animation Strategy: Review and guide window size, format, and flexibility to accommodate seasonal campaigns and storytelling opportunities
• Material & Finish Evaluation: Ensure the use of appropriate materials and finishes that support both design integrity and long-term maintenance.
• Guidelines & Standards Governance: Create, maintain, and distribute Brand Environment Guidelines that define key design principles, execution standards, and aesthetic direction across regions and store formats.
• Consistency & Adaptability: Safeguard brand consistency across store types, whilst enabling the ability to flex store layouts.
• Quality Control & Field Feedback: Conduct store visits and virtual reviews to evaluate execution quality. Collect feedback from regional teams and customers to drive continuous improvement in store environments.
Note: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, those listed above. The role may require additional tasks and duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department and organization.
Measures of Success
• Design Execution & Store Consistency: High-quality and consistent execution of store design principles across all store formats, maintaining alignment with brand standards and regional tiering strategies.
• Functionality & Commercial Alignment: Store layouts and fixtures that effectively support product capacity, sub-brand segmentation, and commercial goals, resulting in improved operational efficiency.
• Cost Efficiency & Investment Optimization: Smart design decisions that balance aesthetics and function while minimizing OPEX and CAPEX, ensuring responsible use of VM investment.
• Adaptability & Future-Proofing: Store environments designed with flexibility in mind—allowing for animation, layout changes, and seasonal updates without compromising brand integrity.
• Brand Consistency Across Store Formats: Successful delivery of branded environments that align with global design principles across full-price, outlet, wholesale, and other formats.
• Project Delivery on Time and Budget: Completion of new store concepts, remodels, and fixture programs within agreed timelines and budget allocations.
• Execution Quality: High-quality execution of in-store environments as assessed via store visits, regional feedback, and audit reports.
• Stakeholder Satisfaction: Positive feedback from internal stakeholders (e.g. Store Design, VM, Retail Ops, Marketing) and external partners on collaboration, creativity, and leadership.
• Adaptability Across Markets: Ability to balance global standards with local flexibility, ensuring design relevance and commercial alignment in diverse markets.
The Ideal Candidate
• Degree in Design: Bachelor's in Interior Design, Architecture, Visual Merchandising, or related field.
• Retail Design Experience: 7-10 years in store design or brand environment roles, ideally in fashion or lifestyle retail.
• Global/Retail Exposure: Experience with international markets and multiple retail formats (full-price, outlet, wholesale).
• Design Software Skills: Proficient in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D visualization tools.
• Project Management: Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to lead projects across regions, on time and on budget.
• Creative & Strategic Thinking: Ability to translate brand identity into compelling, commercially effective environments.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Comfortable working across Store Design, VM, Retail Ops, and Marketing teams.
• Excellent Communication: Strong visual, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Trend & Sustainability Awareness: Passion for innovation in retail design, with awareness of sustainable practices.
• Fluency in English: Other language skills are a plus, especially for working across global teams. Commercially-driven mindset with a deep understanding of how VM impacts customer engagement and sales performance. Experience managing budgets, timelines, and external vendors for VM production and installations.
