We are seeking a temporary Subject Matter Expert (SME) with experience delivering professional learning and a deep understanding of educational systems, including the cultural, historical, and community contexts that shape them. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong knowledge of special education practices and a commitment to high-quality, inclusive learning experiences.This role involves developing and delivering engaging, inclusive professional development content—developed by Subject Matter Experts from Public Consulting Group (PCG), in collaboration with the client—to educators, leaders, and families.
This is a temporary, part-time position, estimated at 4-16 hours per week, depending on the delivery schedule. Flexibility is required to meet project needs. While content delivery must follow the schedule provided by the client, content development may be completed during evenings or weekends, based on the project plan.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate professional learning sessions tailored to the unique needs of educators, leaders, and families, using content and facilitation guides developed by PCG.
Deliver culturally relevant and inclusive content across both virtual and in-person settings.
Collaborate closely with PCG’s Subject Matter Experts, Project Director, and Project Managers to ensure alignment with project goals, applicable standards, and client priorities.
Support the development of key professional development deliverables, including:
Slide deck – Visually accessible and aligned to session objectives and adult learning principles
Engagement guide – Participant-facing tool with reflection prompts, space for notes, and application activities
Facilitation guide – Scripted guide with timing cues, discussion prompts, and facilitation tips
These materials are designed based on client-defined objectives and aligned to relevant educational priorities.
Provide and apply constructive feedback to improve session outcomes and support continuous refinement of content and facilitation approaches.
Maintain clear, consistent communication with all stakeholders to support the success of professional development activities.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in a K–12 setting.
Strong understanding of cultural, historical, and community influences education, with the ability to apply this context when engaging adult learners.
Proven experience facilitating professional learning for diverse adult audiences, including educators, leaders, and families.
Ability to deliver content clearly and effectively using a facilitation guide, while creating a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging, pacing, and engagement strategies to meet the needs of varied stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to incorporate participant feedback (e.g., exit slips) to reflect on and refine future delivery strategies.
Responsiveness to coaching and feedback, with a commitment to continuous improvement in both content and delivery.
Highly organized and self-motivated, with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, impactful adult learning experiences.
- Availability to travel based on the client’s professional learning schedule and commit to being onsite two to three days per month. Each onsite day includes a full-day session from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., consisting of six hours of delivery and two hours of preparation. The specific schedule will be coordinated with the Project Director to ensure alignment with the client’s onsite needs, organizational priorities, and the candidate’s schedule. Schedules will be confirmed at least one month in advance and communicated during project meetings.
