Job Summary
Ensures compliance with Consumer Lending Regulations and provides results of testing to management. Works closely with Underwriting Management, Argo Project Manager, and Synovus Compliance to interpret Consumer Lending Regulations for use in the daily operations of Consumer Underwriting, as well as loan system design. Assists in incorporating changing laws, regulations and agency guidance into company policies and procedures. Coordinates daily workflow including self-monitoring review schedules, exam findings, and exam responses.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures quality reviews are completed by the team in accordance with written procedures and deadlines. Provides responses from monthly testing for management review.
- Maintains awareness of regulatory and legislative developments and industry trends. Leads Consumer Underwriting in being aware of all upcoming changes affecting the consumer regulations in place for underwriting. When consumer regulations are updated by government agencies, ensures Consumer Underwriting makes the proper changes to stay remain compliant.
- Participates on all exams to include attending all calls related to the exam and answer questions from examiners on Consumer Underwriting processes for transaction testing and procedure reviews. Ensures all follow-up activities related to any findings or issues cited in the exam remain on track and are resolved with Compliance.
- Actively answers questions of how Consumer Underwriting should interpret and apply consumer regulations to loan processing procedures. Combines knowledge of various regulations with internal business practices and advises on any business risk with a certain course of action. Confidently responds to challenges of existing practices to ensure compliance but recognize business needs. Develops and adjusts regular self-testing models as results are received, deciding which controls are strong and need less review, and which controls are weak and need more review, based on current trends.
- Organizes data and generates various reports and models; effectively interprets and translates data in multiple formats; analyzes and aggregates information as required and summarizes results with relevant formatting, tables or graphs.
- Provides business perspective and represents the strategies and frameworks set by key stakeholders. Develops larger-scale solutions to help solve strategic problems or implement strategic initiatives.
- Works with project teams to define scope of effort/business requirements for development of new initiatives and enhancements.
- Works independently with users to define concepts and under direction of project managers or key stakeholders.
- Successfully engages in multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.

QualificationsMinimum Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum Experience:
- Five years of experience in consumer lending with experience in compliance testing, internal and external audits, and implementing new regulations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Broad knowledge of current laws, regulations, agency guidelines, policies and practices for consumer mortgage lending
- Understanding of retail banking business, processes, systems and issues
- Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) results and business implications with Consumer Underwriting Management and Corporate Compliance
- Ability to assess the compliance risk that identified issues may pose for Synovus consumer real estate lending
- Demonstrated analytical skills, detail orientation, and ability to assess information and form logical evaluations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to frequently interact (including report preparation) with senior management
