Chubb is seeking a highly motivated, results oriented Senior Marine Underwriter to join our industry leading Property and Casualty practice in our Southeast Region.
The Marine Underwriter will be responsible for a renewal book of around $5M and a new business goal of approximately $1M-$2M annually. The position will be responsible for driving profitable growth within the Southeast region and will be tasked with marketing to agents & brokers in Southeast Region which includes offices in Atlanta, Nashville, Tampa, Birmingham, Charlotte agents and brokers. This position will underwrite ocean cargo, builder’s risk, civil construction projects, fine arts, contractors equipment, motor truck cargo, transit, installation floaters, equipment dealers, and other marine coverages. This position will collaborate within a large team of commercial underwriters, operations, claims, marketing, and Home Office management as necessary.
Role Responsibilities:
- Within established business plans and assigned authority, select, analyze and underwrite individual risks utilizing corporate pricing and reinsurance techniques to obtain desired results.
- Meet or exceed new business production goal of approximately $1-$2M and manage a Renewal Book of around $5M while maintaining profitability across assigned portfolio and adhering to authority and underwriting strategies. Includes knowledge and achievement of desired pre-bind metrics (Submissions, Quote Ratio, Hit Ratio, Efficiency Ratio) to facilitate profitable growth and achieve production goals.
- This role will be supporting our Southeast Region which consists of branches in Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, Alabama, and Tennessee. Travel to assigned branches at minimum on a quarterly basis, as needed.
- Monitor results of the overall book of business assigned and recommend corrective action as necessary to insure retention of desirable accounts.
- Meet or exceed financial goals including rate, growth, profit, retention, and new business.
- Make customer presentations/visits on behalf of Chubb Inland Marine to develop positive, long-term broker relationships.
- Participate in audits and/or underwriting meetings as required.
- Develop and maintain internal relationships with local branch, Territory Underwriting Manager, Line of business/Industry Practice Leaders and Home Office personal.
- Cross-sell opportunities within other Chubb divisions through promotion of their products and services.
- Bachelor’s degree or greater.
- 2+ years of underwriting experience, preferably in the inland marine and ocean cargo space.
- Strong sales, marketing, and negotiation skills.
- Proven track record of building strong business relationships with agents and insureds.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and time management skills.
- Proven ability in complex account analysis, prioritization, organization, and detail orientation.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment using multiple internal and external resources appropriately, effectively, and efficiently.
- General understanding of underlying insurance business, regulatory environment, and strong adherence to underwriting authority.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
