Job Summary: The Recreation Supervisor for the Active Adult Center is an integral part of the Recreation Division with the City of Greeley and is directly responsible for overseeing the Active Adult Center. The Recreation Supervisor oversees multiple full-time staff including two Recreation Coordinators and one Customer Service Representative and several part-time staff. The Recreation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing risk management and emergency response practices; employee training, development, onboarding and ensuring quality customer service at the Active Adult Center. The Recreation Supervisor also oversees membership sales, daily admissions, guest services and communication efforts.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Human Services, or Gerontology related degrees, gained through a four-year college/university academic program or specialized technical training of equivalent length

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in active adult center facility and/or program management operations within parks and recreation, municipal government, or a similar industry. Familiarity with ADA compliance and safety regulations for public facilities

OR 

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job,

AND 

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation practices

  • Strong grasp of recreational programming, particularly for active adult populations. Understanding of community needs assessment, event planning, and public engagement methodologies

  • Knowledge of facility scheduling, maintenance procedures, safety protocols, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Familiarity with emergency response planning and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Proficiency in developing, monitoring, and adjusting facility and program budgets. Understanding of payroll processes, revenue tracking, expenditure forecasting, and performance metrics.

  • Understanding of effective customer service practices, community outreach, and inclusive service delivery. Ability to build and maintain relationships with patrons, staff, and stakeholders

  • Knowledge of digital and print marketing strategies, social media content planning, and community communications. Understanding of the collaborative role between recreation and communication departments

  • Proficient in recreation management software and Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of survey development, data collection, and evaluation tools for continuous improvement

  • Skilled in supervising diverse teams, delegating tasks effectively, providing mentorship, and conducting performance evaluations. Strong ability to inspire staff and foster a growth-oriented work environment

  • Ability to interpret policy and apply professional judgment in decision-making. Skilled in setting priorities, establishing procedures, and aligning operations with organizational objectives

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to facilitate meetings, create reports, present to leadership, and resolve conflicts tactfully and professionally

  • Proficient in managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines. Skilled in event planning, scheduling, documentation, and follow-through

  • Ability to identify operational inefficiencies, analyze data, implement improvements, and resolve complex personnel or customer-related issues effectively

Essential Functions:

  • Personnel Management - Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates Recreation Coordinators and Customer Service Representatives and ensures all other hourly employees are fulfilling expectations of their positions. Hosts regularly scheduled team meetings and trainings for full-time staff. Conducts individual staff meetings on a regular basis with direct reports focusing on professional development, goal setting, employee expectations and continual growth. Works closely with other Recreation Supervisors to ensure expectations such as recognition and discipline are consistent amongst staff and knowledge is shared between program and facility areas. Fosters the development of special events, incentive programs, collaborative programs, and supports staff when needed with the execution of events and programs. Provides quality customer service through the development of relationships with staff, participants, community members and various organizations.

  • Facility and Risk Management - Serves as the point person for all operations within the Active Adult Center. This includes all communication and correspondence with any program or service taking place within the facility. Ensures facility and programs are meeting local, state, and federal guidelines. Supports reservation requests and facility scheduling. Partners with facilities staff to ensure building repairs are completed in a timely manner and all preventative maintenance occurs regularly. Assists with the oversight and coordination of capital improvement projects. Ensures standard operating procedures, risk management and emergency response plans, staff manuals, facility rules and regulations, memorandums of understanding, user agreements and all necessary forms are in place for the facility/program area and are updated on an annual basis. Trains staff on risk management procedures and ensures all employees are demonstrating safe practices.

  • Fiscal Management - Develops facility and program budgets. Regularly reviews and reports program and facility budgets to ensure expenditures and revenue align with the Greeley Recreation priorities and budget forecasts. Regularly updates performance measures. Provides division updates for senior leadership and applicable boards/committees. Oversees payroll and timekeeping for facility and program staff

  • Membership/Customer Relations - Oversees membership and daily admission offerings at the Active Adult Center. Provides quality customer service through the development of relationships with program participants, members, guests, local organizations and the community. Works with Communication and Engagement Department along with Greeley Recreation staff to develop a marketing and communication plan.

  • Technology/Assessment - Utilizes software and other tools for reporting purposes and ensures all staff are properly trained on the software. Supports the development and administration of surveys and focus groups to gauge participant satisfaction levels, gather constructive feedback and acquire ideas for facility and program improvements. Assists with development and management of digital marketing efforts

  • Program Management - Works directly with the Communication and Engagement Department to ensure marketing materials, website, and social media sites are updated with accurate information. Assists in the development of new and innovative recreation programs in a variety of categories based on community demand and needs.

  • Communication: The Recreation Supervisor works closely with community partners, vendors/ contractors. The Recreation Supervisor establishes contracts with organizations and determines operation schedules and rental fees. The Recreation Supervisor develops Coordinator goals and priorities and ensure staff are continually operating with a growth mindset

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work Environment

  • Marginal to moderate hazards that are typically predictable or well protected against

  • May be exposed to indoor/outdoor work areas including but not limited to classroom, general office spaces and recreational activity spaces. Aquatics operation requires exposure to chemicals used in swimming pool operations. Ice operations include substantial slip hazards

Physical Requirements

  • Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions

  • Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-49 lbs.) and use of medium weight tools.
