Program Specialist I (Program Specialist)

This position performs routine (journey-level) consultative services and technical assistance work in claim support and verifies policy coverage in support of workers’ compensation claims. Program Specialist I is responsible for identifying and processing various claims-related forms and documents, entering data information within an electronic environment, researching, and responding to requests for claim updates, corrections, establishing new claims, and providing customer service. Program Specialist I responds to requests from internal DWC staff and external customers’ requests establishing workers' compensation subscriber claims to reflect the appropriate employer and carrier. Program Specialist I may also develop training materials and may conduct employee training. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, with adherence to all agency statutes, rules, and policies.  

This position:

·         Verifies and updates claim information in systems and processes forms in a paperless environment,

·         Research incomplete or missing claim information for forms exception processing,

·         Performs administrative functions related to claim creation, data entry, mail processing, scanning, and document handling, and

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

This position requires: 

·         Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.

·         Additionally, this position requires one year of experience performing administrative procedures and using automated data systems.

·         Experience and education relevant to the position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

·         Regular work attendance.

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

·         State laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to job requirements.

·         Personal computers and various software applications.

·         Business terminology, spelling, grammar, and mathematics.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

·         Problem-solving and critical thinking.

·         Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.

·         Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job.

·         Data entry, planning, problem solving, and decision making.

·         Communicating effectively both orally and in writing.

·         Applying training, rules and regulations, and procedures.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

·         Communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people with varied skills, knowledge, and backgrounds.

·         Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.

·         Analyze and solve work-related problems and work independently on a variety of administrative work and technical assignments.

·         Manage and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities to meet necessary deadlines.

·         Use critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems.

·         Establish and maintain a harmonious working relationship with co-workers, agency staff, and external customers.
