Insurance Specialist II (Insurance Specialist)
This position performs routine journey level insurance work. Work involves analyzing licensing applications and determining compliance with and investigating possible violations of the Texas Insurance Code. Work involves fielding phone calls from applicants and disseminating information both verbally and in written form. Requires ability to obtain DPS secure site access. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
This position:
· Reviews license applications and renewals, specifically in-depth review of criminal history backgrounds, prior disciplinary action, and possible misstatements, while complying with procedures to ensure that no insurance license is issued without prior eligibility and/or compliance with the Texas Insurance Code, Texas Administrative Code, Texas Occupations Code, or any other law and/or rule of the state of Texas.
· Maintains contact with applicant/licensee to develop information necessary to complete review, including follow-up calls and correspondence, while adhering to strict timelines for response/actions.
· Analyzes legal documents, charging instruments, indictments, judgments, orders, and criminal histories.
· Prepares memoranda for submission to management and or enforcement including recommendations for licensure actions.
· Reviews various notifications of misconduct of current licensees to determine appropriate action.
· Crosstrain and assist other teams as needed and
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
This position requires:
· 60 college hours.
· One year’s experience in insurance work.
· Regular work attendance.
Note: Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

Preferences for this position include:
· General knowledge of Agent and Adjuster Licensing’s processes and procedures.
This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:
· Rules and statutes include the Texas Insurance Code and Texas Administrative Code, especially relating to Agent and Adjuster Licensing.
· Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
· Converting Microsoft Word documents to Adobe PDF, as well as extracting and combining PDF files efficiently.
This position requires demonstrated skill in:
· Problem solving and critical thinking.
· Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
· Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job.
· Analyzing related data and using conclusions to reach resolution.
· Managing multiple competing priorities.
· Effectively and clearly communicating, in a clear and concise manner, with all levels of employees and the public.
· Entering electronic data accurately and timely.
This position requires the demonstrated ability to:
· Communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people with varied skills, knowledge, and backgrounds.
· Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
· Analyze and solve work-related problems and work independently on a variety of administrative work and technical assignments.
· Manage and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities to meet necessary deadlines.
· Work both independently and as a team player.
· Comprehend reports and determine compliance with rules and statutes.
· Draft clear and concise letters and reports of findings.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees, industry representatives, legislators, and the public.
· Work independently, moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
