As an R&D Optical Performance Test Engineer at Nokia, you will play a crucial role in our System Design and Verification (SDVT) team, where your expertise in optical transmission systems and advanced modulation techniques will directly influence the performance of long-haul and ultra-long-haul networks. Collaborating closely with our simulation and optical architecture teams in Munich, you'll conduct in-depth optical performance tests and validation, helping to solve complex challenges posed by next-gen modulations. This dynamic, fast-paced environment fosters innovation and offers opportunities for early customer engagements with industry leaders like Meta and Google. - Conduct and complete DWDM optical performance tests to enhance fiber optic transmission systems.
- Set up, configure, and maintain optical performance test equipment and fixtures based on detailed test plans.
- Develop comprehensive test plans, procedures, and work instructions tailored to customer specifications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze complex optical systems and ensure optimal performance.
- Oversee project timelines, providing scheduling support and status updates to project leads.
- Source lab supplies and materials, managing budget and procurement processes for testing apparatus.
- Stay current with industry advancements, validating methodologies and integrating innovative testing techniques.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both team members and external customers, fostering collaboration.
- PhD or Master’s Degree in electrical engineering, optical physics, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of fiber optic transmission systems and optical physics
- Experience executing DWDM optical performance tests
- Ability to generate comprehensive test plans and procedures from customer requirements
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills in analyzing complex optical systems
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Experience with data acquisition systems and data analysis
It would be nice if you also had:
- Experience in writing automation applications using Python or similar tools
- Familiarity with high-speed electro-optical modulation techniques
- Knowledge of standard business software (Microsoft Office, Outlook, etc.)
- Experience working in a testing environment with fiber optic systems and components
