Primary Responsibilities:

The Director of Plant Operations is responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, and safety of the community’s physical environment. This role ensures that all buildings, grounds, equipment, and support services are maintained to the highest standards of safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance. Through strategic leadership, budget management, staff development, and cross-departmental collaboration, the Director fosters a healthy, efficient, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and guests.

  • Facility Oversight: Ensure the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of all buildings, grounds, tools, equipment and facility services to support a high-quality living and working environment.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and manage departmental staff to foster a responsive, well-trained, and high-performing team.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement departmental and organizational goals, training programs, and performance evaluations aligned with community and corporate objectives.
  • Financial Management: Create and manage annual budgets and capital spending plans, ensuring cost-effective operations and financial accountability.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations across all services and programs.
  • Professional Development: Support staff growth through Individual Development Plans, succession planning, and ongoing educational opportunities.
  • Safety & Emergency Preparedness: Lead training initiatives in emergency response, life safety, OSHA compliance, and infection control protocols.
  • Departmental Supervision: Oversee landscaping, maintenance, transportation, communications, and security teams through inspections and quality assurance measures.
  • Operational Excellence: Analyze maintenance and operational reports to identify and resolve issues, ensuring consistent service quality and performance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with other departments and resident committees to align facility operations with broader community goals.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Five plus years in plant engineering or trades (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry), with 3+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to read blueprints and write reports.
  • Experience in healthcare or senior living environments preferred; along with knowledge of fire safety and OSHA/MSDS standards.
