Role overview
The Network Engineer position is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the company's network infrastructure of our Data Centre in Colombia, ensuring high performance, availability, and security of mission-critical systems.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, this role will act as a technical leader, providing support for both production and non-production environments, collaborating with other teams, and ensuring that network solutions align with business objectives.
This position requires daily presence (Mon-Fri) in Tocancipá and involves hands-on experience in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting networking equipment such as switches, routers, firewalls, and load balancers, along with managing associated infrastructure like cabling, WAN links, and ISP connectivity.
The primary focus of this role is on network operations, including capacity management, preventive and corrective maintenance, and managing relationships with key vendors.
What you'll do
Level 3 Technical Support: Provide advanced technical assistance and participate in an on-call rotation to maintain 24/7 network performance, availability, and security.
- Implementation and Maintenance: Lead the implementation and support of technical solutions for network equipment and infrastructure in Colombia.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with different teams, gathering requirements and providing solutions and recommendations aligned with operational needs.
- Local Operations: Ensure optimal performance of the network infrastructure in Colombia, coordinating and executing maintenance, improvements, and incident resolutions.
- Vendor Relations: Manage relationships with manufacturers, partners, and vendors to ensure optimal support, efficient procurement, and technological alignment with business needs.
- Capacity Management: Monitor and manage network capacity to ensure efficient operation and scalability according to business demands.
- Standardization and Security: Implement and maintain configuration, security, and compliance standards across the network infrastructure in Colombia and following our internal standards defined by our Engineering team.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improvement, apply automation where possible, and continuously optimize network management processes.
- Documentation: Ensure that all processes, configurations, and changes are properly documented according to internal standards and industry best practices.
What are we looking for
Education and Experience:
- A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in IT administration or support roles involving networking technologies.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Cisco Routing, Switching, and SDWAN products.
- Experience with Supermicro switches and other networking equipment.
- Advanced knowledge of firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto) and load balancers (e.g., F5).
- Expertise in capacity planning and management for networking infrastructure.
- Solid troubleshooting skills and familiarity with ITIL frameworks.
- Knowledge of automation practices in network lifecycle management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Exceptional organizational and attention-to-detail skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
- Collaborative and consultative approach to working with cross-functional teams.
- Experience in managing vendor and partner relationships.
- Familiarity with infrastructure growth strategies and customer solution design.
- Experience with OpenStack, VMware, and monitoring tools like Grafana and Icinga.
- Familiarity with project management principles and tools (e.g., Atlassian stack).
- Experience managing end-customer relationships.
