Under the direction of the Director of Facilities Services, the Assistant Director of Safety directs the day-to-day responsibilities and supports the effective and efficient operations of Safety & Security department which includes the following areas: safety emergency systems, security management, and safety-related programs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversees emergency systems (call systems, door/access locking systems, elevator systems, generator/emergency lighting, fire alarm panel, and fire sprinklers line).
- Manages safety programs (policies, memos, and awareness programs).
- Maintains emergency action plans, evacuation plans, and critical incident response lists.
- Schedules and oversees 24/7 security staffing and inspections.
- Manages and reports security incidents, communicating with law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
- Reviews surveillance, periodically reporting on trends, anomalies, and concerns, and ensures protocols are followed.
- Responds to safety/security inquiries and concerns from residents, staff, and others.
- Supports company and departmental goals utilizing a collaborative approach across all departments and positions.
- Ensures timely execution of operational tasks and work orders.
- Serves as facilities liaison for service requests and communication with residents.
- Recommends purchases and oversees vendor contracts and service quality.
- Handles ordering, proposal/bid requests, and monitors service performance and compliance.
- Develops and enforces safety/security policies.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., NC Department of Health & Human Services, Chatham County Health Department, and Chatham County Fire Marshal) and reports required to be maintained.
- Assists with asset tagging, material ordering, and inventory tracking.
- Assists with hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
- Serves as a facilities liaison in entering and assigning work orders/service activities to facilities and security staff as requested.
- Supports staff communication, recognition, PPE distribution, and timekeeping.
- Performs additional tasks as assigned along with tasks that actively contributes to enhancing the resident experience.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience in safety management and/or security role, preferably hands-on, supervisory, technical, and vendor management experience background in security camera systems, security monitoring, safety program creation and training, emergency preparedness and crisis management, fire alarm and sprinkler systems, emergency call devices, and generators operations.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must possess general knowledge of customer service and supervisory skills.
- Knowledge of current regulatory standards for long-term care and continuing care retirement communities preferred.
- Must have a professional demeanor and pleasant personality to meet with residents and other professionals
- Must be able to follow written or oral instructions and provide directions, including ability to operate a tablet PC.
- Must have effective written and verbal communication skills and be able to work collaboratively within a diverse work group.
- Must be willing to perform duties inside and outside the facility when necessary.
- Must enjoy working with and have the ability to cooperate with other employees and department directors.
- Must be willing and eager to work with and provide assistance to the residents of the facility.
- Must have a genuine interest in geriatric care and believe in and uphold the philosophy of the facility.
