Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech is seeking a strategic and experienced Associate Director of Marketing and Communications to lead and elevate Clarke’s marketing and communications efforts, with a key focus on its national teleservices program. This is a high-impact, hands-on role that combines creative leadership with strong ownership and execution across integrated campaigns, marketing and content strategy, and editorial and brand standards. The Associate Director will play a central role in driving communications excellence and providing meaningful support across the Communications team.


Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the Associate Director will directly supervise the Senior Digital Communications Specialist and work collaboratively with the Communications team, senior leadership, and key stakeholders to ensure all marketing and communications consistently reflect Clarke’s mission and highest standards. The individual will also serve as the organization’s primary writer, copyeditor, and lead editorial authority, independently producing, reviewing, refining, and approving high-visibility content and materials. 


Additionally, the Associate Director will act as the primary Communications liaison to the Development department, supporting Communications project management and shaping fundraising messaging and campaign narratives in partnership with the Development team and Chief Development Officer.


The Associate Director will provide critical backup support across the Communications team during peak periods, absences, or special initiatives. This role requires prior experience directly supervising and mentoring staff, with demonstrated success in driving performance and accountability in the marketing and communications function. Candidates located in or near Palm Beach County, FL or Philadelphia, PA will be given preference.

  

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy and execution of marketing initiatives for Clarke’s teleservices program, focusing on enrollment growth, brand awareness, and audience engagement.
  • Develop and implement integrated, multi-channel marketing campaigns that support organizational goals and ensure consistent messaging across Clarke’s programs and channels.
  • Serve independently as Clarke’s lead writer, copyeditor, and primary editorial authority ensuring clarity, consistency, and quality. Own the maintenance and evolution of the organization’s style guide. 
  • Act as the primary Communications liaison to the Development department, collaborating on fundraising messaging, donor communications, marketing, and campaign strategy.
  • Manage and mentor the Senior Digital Communications Specialist by providing clear direction, performance guidance, and opportunities for growth.
  • Represent Clarke in media, conferences, and other public-facing contexts in support of marketing efforts if/when needed.
  • Provide critical support for other team members by assisting with social media, website content management, email marketing, and graphic design coordination as needed.
  • Monitor analytics and industry trends to refine strategy, optimize messaging, and maximize audience engagement.


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, or related fields, preferably in education, healthcare, or nonprofit environments.
  • Demonstrated success independently leading integrated marketing campaigns and managing complex communications projects.
  • Proven track record of managing and mentoring staff, including performance evaluation and professional development.
  • Advanced writing, editing, and copyediting skills with mastery of the Chicago Manual of Style and consistent experience applying it independently as a final editorial authority.
  • Strong public presentation skills, including experience participating in press interviews, conferences, community outreach events, and serving as a public spokesperson.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and work autonomously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with a solution-oriented mindset and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a fully remote environment with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience navigating marketing and communications platforms and tools such as WordPress, Constant Contact, Sprout Social, Canva, and marketing analytics tools. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) and fundraising tools (Classy, GiveSmart) is a plus.

Working Conditions and Travel

  • Fully remote position open to U.S.-based candidates.
  • Preference for candidates based in or near Palm Beach County, FL or Philadelphia, PA.
  • Occasional weekend work may be required for event support.
  • Company-paid travel approximately three to four times per year for professional development, events, or team meetings.
