POSITION OBJECTIVE: To maintain the safety of the casino by inspecting workplaces, design programs to prevent injury or illness, and assist in monitoring and coordinating the overall safety programs.

JOB SUMMARY: Serves as the subject matter expert in all aspects regarding safety and risk management. Responsible for ensuring the workplace is free from hazards, conducts injury/accident investigations, safety training, and audits as necessary. Coordinates with all Casino Leadership to attend to safety concerns ensuring the safety of all Casino Team Members. Aids in the administration and application of the Safety Programs and Casino Committees as well as preventative safety policies and workplace inspections. Acts as support for the Compliance Specialists in their absence.

QUALIFICATIONS


Required skills, knowledge:

  • A.A. Degree in occupational safety and health, risk management, or related area. Equivalent education or experience may be substituted year for year.
  • Industry specific certification related to food safety, occupational safety and risk management.
  •  Three years of experience directly related to Safety and Risk duties and responsibilities. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate safety/risk information, policies and/or procedures in a manner easily understood.
  • Knowledge of emergency response action plans and accident prevention programs.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and Life Safety Code.
  • Ability to recognize and eliminate hazards in collaboration with department leadership and the Safety Committee.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and provide a driver’s abstract that must not contain any disqualifying events per the NRWC Safe Driver Policy.
  • Ensure compliance with tribal ordinances and applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Intermediate spreadsheet software skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, to quantify and illustrate routine data analysis, comparisons, impacts and/or projections.
  • Excellent guest service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to keep current knowledge of safety and risk trends in the industry.
  • Willingness to adapt and evolve in a fast-paced gaming environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.

  • Ability to obtain certifications in first aid.
  • Ability to obtain a Class III Gaming License.

Preferred skills, knowledge:

  • B.A. Degree in occupational safety and health, risk management, or related area.
  • One year of gaming operations experience.
  • Working knowledge of gaming regulations including casino internal controls, tribal ordinances, tribal-state compacts, minimum internal control standards, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to sit, stand and/or walk for long periods of time and move from area to area in work locations including kitchen and facilities workshop for audit and inspection tasks.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual and finger dexterity for operation of personal computer and routine paperwork.
  • Ability to tolerate a smoke-filled environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Investigate accidents to identify causes and determine mitigating action for future accident prevention.
  • Recommend measures to help protect Team Members from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
  • Inspect workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with relative safety standards and regulations.
  • When necessary, inspect off-site event locations for accident prevention.
  • Develop and/or conduct safety training or education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
  • Investigate safety related complaints for issues needing corrective action.
  • Develop or maintain safety programs such as the evacuation action plan, exposure control, hazard communication, environmental safety, and fire safety.
  • Manage worker’s compensation claims, correspondence, and follow-up.
  • Develops and delivers high level reporting with safety metrics, activities, incidents, and overall performance of safety programs.
  • Performs initial and follow-up audits/inspections in accordance with professional standards.
  • Coordinates, interacts, and consults with managers and staff on operational and administrative issues.
  • Keeps abreast of current industry trends and technical pronouncements of applicable safety and risk standards as well as changes in local, state, tribal, and federal laws, as applicable.
  • Prepares reports and makes recommendations in the form of oral and written communications. 
  • Draft various documents (i.e. standard operating procedures, policies, manuals and safety programs).
  • Be on-call to assist as needed in case of emergency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
