Description
The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, developing, writing, and submitting grant proposals to secure funding from foundations, corporations, and government agencies. This role will support LSSSC’s fundraising efforts by drafting compelling narratives, maintaining grant records, and assisting with post-award reporting. The ideal candidate has strong writing skills, attention to detail, and a passion for nonprofit development.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
• Research and identify potential funding opportunities from private foundations, corporations, and government sources that align with LSSSC’s mission and programs.
• Draft and submit well-researched, persuasive grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding requests.
• Assist in managing the grant application process, ensuring timely submissions and compliance with all guidelines.
• Work closely with program staff and finance teams to gather required data, budgets, and program descriptions.
• Maintain a grant tracking system to monitor submission deadlines, application statuses, and reporting requirements.
• Support post-award grant management by assisting with progress reports, impact reports, and funder communications.
• Research industry trends and funding priorities to strengthen LSSSC’s grant strategy.
• Ensure consistency in messaging and alignment with LSSSC’s mission and funding priorities.
• Assist in stewardship activities, including thank-you letters, funder updates, and donor communications
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Goals and Performance Metrics
• Meet annual grant revenue targets as determined by the development team.
• Submit a set number of grant applications per quarter based on funding priorities.
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of proposals and reports.
• Maintain high-quality writing standards with minimal revisions required from senior staff.
• Contribute to increasing the overall success rate of awarded grants.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in grant writing or nonprofit fundraising.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling abilities, with attention to detail and clarity.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and donor database or grants management software.
- Passion for LSSSC’s mission and commitment to social services and community impact.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with government grant applications.
• Familiarity with program evaluation and impact reporting.
• Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising principles and grant compliance.
Language Ability: Must read, speak, and write fluent English.
Communication: Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with clients and staff.
Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software and Spreadsheet software.
