Mission: The Link works with youth and young families to overcome the impacts of poverty and social injustice. Our 23 programs provide supportive housing, intensive case management services, and skills development to youth at risk of or experiencing homelessness, sex trafficking and/or involvement in the juvenile justice system. The Link prides itself on its innovative, youth-centered, strengths-based programming for youth and families as well as programs that are co-designed, implemented and overseen by youth.
Position Specifics
- Hiring Salary Range: $23.13-$26.00/hour based on qualifications
- Job Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
- Location: Minneapolis, MN
- Hours/Days: Mon-Fri, 9:00-5:00
- Note: This position requires driving. To be able to drive on behalf of The Link, candidates must have a valid driver's license, have a safe and reliable vehicle, be able to successfully clear a criminal and motor vehicle background check, and maintain personal insurance at the levels of $100,000 Bodily Injury/Per Person and $300,000 Bodily Injury/Per Accident. Job offer is contingent on having these requirements
BASIC FUNCTION
School Matters is a youth led; relationship focused short term program that addresses barriers and increases the educational success rate for Hennepin County students ages 12-17 by acknowledging the variety of reasons students experience truancy and assists in assisting youth to re-engage in school and on the path to school success. The program offers Hennepin County youth intensive youth led one-on-one case management to identify and eliminate barriers to school attendance. Youth are referred to The Link once they have seven or more unexcused absences from school. Case managers use a strengthen based approach to work with them and their families to re-engage youth with their education as quickly as possible through individualized action plans and client driven goal setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Case Management and Youth Advocacy
- Provide short term (90 day) case management services to at risk youth.
- Interview and assess clients to determine barriers, resource need, and other factors related to case planning.
- Connect youth to community resources and activities.
- Support youth in pursuing long-term education and career goals.
- Help and support families of youth in the program.
- Connect parents to parent services .
- Provide school support
- Monitor school attendance .
- Provide necessary transportation for clients according to availability.
- Facilitate groups, activities and service projects for youth.
- Maintains consistent contact with all clients prioritizing those in needs.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Keep updated records of all interactions with clients and any other contracts made on their behalf.
- Provide on-going monitoring and reporting of client’s progress.
- Reports to the supervisor and the County Attorney’s Office regarding the client’s progress.

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Access to reliable transportation and the ability to drive participants.
- Clean driving record and ability to pass a criminal and motor vehicle background check.
- Knowledge of systems navigation within Hennepin County.
- High Level of attention to detail.
- Desire to continuously learn for personal and professional growth.
- High level of personal and professional integrity, including ability to protect and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively with and relate to diverse populations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially for client advocacy.
- Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently organize, coordinate,
- Track and complete multiple tasks as well as adjust to changing priorities,
- Computer application proficiency, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that will include some evening hours.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social work, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field.
- Experience working with at risk youth.
- Experience in completing intake and assessments of client needs.
- Experience in creating goal plans.
- Knowledge of community resources and legal systems, particularly in the juvenile justice system.
- Valid Driver's License, reliable vehicle, ability to pass motor vehicle check and maintain insurance levels required by The Link
PREFERRED:
- Speak Spanish
