Background of the Team

Since 2007 Morgan Stanley has been expanding its fully owned premier investment banking and sales & trading platform in India, providing a full range of investment banking, sales & trading, equity, fixed income, commodities and derivative products, as well as research services. Building on this existing platform in India, we are looking to continue to invest in our Derivative Operations division as they continue to recognize and match the global needs of our clients.

Morgan Stanley transacts Cross Product Exotic and Structured Derivative trades/contracts globally, with trading locations in Europe, North America and Asia. The Mumbai Trade Capture Review (TCR) team supports trades originating in all 3 regions.

The primary responsibility of the TCR Team is to ensure all Exotic Trade terms are reconciled between the risk systems, Trade Confirmations/Pricing Supplements and ensure the correct variables are captured accurately in risk models.

A successful applicant will lead a team of Subject Matter Experts, manage a large vendor presence, and will be part of the ISG Equity Sales and Trading Operations team within the Operations Division of Morgan Stanley.

Primary Responsibilities

The primary function within the TCR team is to perform Non-Standard Trade Review of Structured Notes and Exotic Derivative products across Equity and Fixed Income. The review involves verifying and reconciling trade economics between risk systems, confirmations/pricing supplements and booking models. Currently the tasks performed are partially manual in nature and require a workflow driven approach.

This role requires a focus on risk and strong relationships with senior stakeholder across firm functions to ensure the process is effective and runs smoothly. In addition to managing the daily risk, this person will be responsible for the vision, planning and execution of the transformation of the function and systems that support it. The role includes

  • Overseeing trade review of Structured Notes and Exotic Derivative products across asset classes. The review involves verifying trade economics between risk systems and governing documentation (confirmations/pricing supplements).
  • In depth understanding of the front to back process for each product (IED,FX, Rates, Credit & Commodities).
  • Partnering with Business, Legal and Compliance, Technology and Risk teams to help enable new business and manage the daily processes and risk.
  • Establish a strategic vision for the function and partner with technology groups to drive efficiency and control improvements across all aspects of the function.  This includes the leadership and execution of the change agenda.
  • Represent the function in the firmwide Non-Standard Trade Review Governance and ensure all mandates laid out by the committee are adhered to on a daily basis.
  • Produce various reports at predefined frequencies to reflect risk in the process accurately and provide visibility to stakeholders on the outstanding population of trades. Drive automation and standardization for reporting.
  • Engage actively and build relationships with Trading Desks, Strats, Valuation Control and Trade Support groups across Asia, Europe and US.
  • Vendor management: Effectively manage vendor resources including training, daily supervision and governance to ensure quality output, mitigate any errors, and drive vendor led transformation.

Skills Required (Essential)

  • Previous experience in Trade Review/Middle Office/Confirmation Drafting roles with exposure to trade life cycles, process flows and reconciliation with proven track record in managing and developing control functions.
  • Derivative product knowledge, preferably exotic / structured derivatives (Commodities / Equities / Rates / FX / Credit)
  • Demonstrable history of strategic transformation delivery and knowledge of user-led technology solutions
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent oral, written, communication and presentation skills with ability to tailor messages to audiences at senior levels across functions
  • Strong sense of accountability for daily risk management, transformation, and vendor management with a track-record of successfully balancing these varied focuses.
  • Develop talent and delegate effectively.

Experience Required

 Minimum of 15+ year Banking Operations experience

  • 7+ years’ experience in a leadership role for Complex Derivative Trade Review and or Exotic Confirmation Drafting  
  • Minimum Bachelor or Master’s Degree
