About the IT Data Architect Role:

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on IT Data Architect to lead the design and implementation of software solutions that support the operations of our healthcare organization. This individual will be responsible for defining the technical architecture, ensuring secure and scalable development practices, and mentoring development team members. This role will require a hands-on technical practitioner to be well versed in custom software application development as well as enterprise integration development and implementation.  The role may also provide oversight of 3rd party contract labor that will provide additional resourcing in these technical domains. This role is ideal for a solution-oriented professional who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

What you'll do:

  • Design and implement scalable data lake and warehouse solutions using Snowflake and related technologies
  • Develop robust data architecture to support analytics, reporting, and AI-driven healthcare solutions
  • Collaborate with clinical, operational, and technical teams to define data requirements and ensure high data quality and governance
  • Architect centralized data platforms that unify claims, clinical, HIE, and other healthcare data sources
  • Leverage AI and machine learning capabilities to enhance data usability and drive clinical and business insights
  • Architect and design scalable, secure, and maintainable enterprise data solutions to support clinical and administrative functions.
  • Assess and cultivate long-term strategic goals for IT custom applications and cross-platform integrations in conjunction with other IT team members, data users, department managers, clients, and other key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and work with other technical staff to develop applications and integration architectures, coding standards, quality assurance policies and procedures DevOps pipelines, and agile workflows.
  • Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective availability, protection, and integrity of data assets.
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks, and platforms that align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH).
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business and clinical needs into technology solutions.
  • Ensure system integrations are robust, especially with EHRs/EMRs, patient portals, lab systems, and third-party APIs.
  • Provide technical leadership in projects involving custom development, cloud infrastructure, and data interoperability.
  • Oversee code reviews, documentation, and software quality standards.
  • Design and manage custom applications and growth projects.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to data systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Tier 2/3 domain system issues or malfunctions. 
  • Coordinate Tier 3 escalations to relevant vendors. 
  • Analyze the current business and IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.
  • Create technical documentation, including user manuals and design specifications.
  • Develop and operationalize data pipelines, including data ingestion, transformation, and validation.
  • Work with the VP of IT and stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of key strategic projects.
  • Stay current with healthcare IT trends, regulatory updates, and emerging technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 7+ years in data architecture, with a strong background in healthcare data systems
  • Experience in healthcare IT environments is required.
  • Expertise in Snowflake, SQL, Azure and cloud-based data architecture
  • Proven experience designing and building centralized repositories and data lakes for healthcare organizations
  • Familiarity with healthcare data formats (e.g., HL7, FHIR, EDI), applications, and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency in AI/ML tools and their application within healthcare data environments
  • Experience with FHIR, HL7, or other healthcare interoperability standards is a plus.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and secure application development.
  • Strong understanding of database design, RESTful services, and integration patterns.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work across both clinical and technical teams
