Job Summary
The Unit Secretary is responsible for performing all clerical duties on an assigned nursing unit and any assigned by the Nurse Manager.
Qualifications
● High school graduate preferred or GED
● Previous experience, or completion of Medical Terminology or equivalent
● On the job training when necessary
● BLS certification
Job Relationships
1. Directly Responsible to the nurses, the Charge Nurse, the Nurse Manager/House Supervisor, CNO
2. Workers supervised – none.
Physical Demands
Standing/Walking – Frequent. The WC is on her feet some of the shift to perform assigned functions of their job.
Sitting – Continuous. The WC is required most of the shift to sit at various desks height for charting and their tasks such as in-services and filing.
Bending – Frequent. Bending is required in most job activities. The WC should be able to maneuver in small areas, such as plugging in electrical equipment.
Climbing/reaching – Occasional. The WC should be able to climb a small ladder/step stool and be able to reach when placing supplies on storage shelves, etc.
Push/Pull – In-frequent. The WC occasionally will perform push/pull motion when assisting with transporting patients and moving equipment on various floor surfaces.
Handling/lifting – 0-10 pounds: Continuous - 10 pounds or greater: infrequent Manual Dexterity Hands – Simple grasp – Continuous, Firm hand grasp – Frequent
Fine motor manipulation – Frequent.
Feet – standing and walking continuous and/or frequent.
Speaking/Hearing/ Seeing – Continuous.
Speaking – Able to communicate verbally with co-workers, patients, and visitors.
Hearing – Able to hear normal communication with/without correction.
Seeing – 20/20 vision with/without corrective lens.
Patient Population
The WC provides services for patient population ranges from age 13 to over 90 years of age.
