The Opportunity:

The Legal department is seeking a Contracts Manager to serve as a key operations and legal enablement partner, driving contract lifecycle strategy, system optimization, and enterprise-wide stakeholder alignment. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Contracts, this role applies advanced expertise in contract processes and cross-functional collaboration to develop scalable solutions, lead legal operations initiatives, and mentor others in best practices. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work autonomously, lead change across teams, and deliver process improvements that directly support business acceleration and legal compliance.

  • Independently manage end-to-end contract lifecycle for complex agreements, including drafting, reviewing, and coordinating execution for CDAs, MSAs, SOWs, and consulting/vendor agreements.

  • Serve as the functional lead and subject matter expert for the Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) system: administer workflows, configure templates, and generate performance reports and dashboards.

  • Evaluate and implement process improvements to increase contract velocity, reduce risk, and ensure scalability as the company grows toward and beyond commercialization.

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to align legal, procurement, compliance, and finance teams on contract policies, approval workflows, and documentation practices.

  • Train and mentor legal operations staff and business stakeholders on contracting standards, template usage, and system navigation.

  • Partner with legal leadership to track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), risk mitigation strategies, and audit readiness.

  • Stay current with industry’s best practices and emerging technologies in contract operations and make recommendations for adoption or enhancement.

  • Act as primary liaison between Legal and IT or external vendors regarding contract systems upgrades, user support, and business continuity planning.

  • Ensure the organization’s contracts meet internal standards and legal, regulatory, and corporate governance requirements.

Required Experience, Skills, and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or certifications (e.g., IACCM, CLM, legal operations) preferred.

  • 8–10+ years of contract management or legal operations experience, with demonstrated progression and increasing responsibility.

  • Proven expertise with CLM platforms (e.g., Conga CLM), including configuration, optimization, and reporting functions.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional contract-related initiatives and implement process improvements with measurable outcomes.

  • Strong understanding of contract law principles, privacy, compliance (e.g., anti-kickback, data protection), and pharma/biotech regulatory considerations.

  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize, execute, and drive outcomes independently.

  • Highly effective communicator—able to explain complex processes clearly and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Comfortable using data to assess performance, support recommendations, and inform leadership decision-making.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience supporting legal or business operations in a pharmaceutical or life sciences company.

  • Experience leading systems transitions, enterprise rollouts, or contract template harmonization initiatives.

  • Certification in legal operations (e.g., CLOC’s Core 12 competencies), Six Sigma, or project management (PMP) a plus.
