The Intensive Care Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team that provides comprehensive care to critically ill patients. This position will work under the clinical supervision of a physician Intensivist, within the guidelines of nursing process and Advanced Practice Provider protocols as outlined in Patient Care Guidelines for Advanced Practice Provider. The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant performs physical assessments, collects and documents data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, and provides direct patient care services in the ICU setting. The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant contributes to excellence in patient care, teaching, consulting and provides leadership to the organization and nursing profession.
Required Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience:
- Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in an intensive care setting.
- Departmental specialized training to provide care to patients within role.
- Completion of Hospital orientation.
- Must meet all criteria associated with responsibilities detailed in this document.
- Must provide timely, positive responses to the needs of all customers including patients, families, co-workers and physicians.
- Command of verbal and written English
- Operation of clinical equipment demonstrates clinical competence, positive interpersonal communication skills and good organizational skills
- Extremely detail oriented and organized.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience:
Educational Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school
- Master prepared with a degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant
- Master’s Degree as an Advanced Practice RN/PA
License/Certification:
- Current Massachusetts RN licensure
- Current certification by ANCC or appropriate governing body
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification
- Specific competencies/certifications (i.e. NRP, PALS, specialty certifications)
- FCCS certification preferred
- Current DEA, Massachusetts CSR
